You know (for an oldie toady) Faye Dunaway is kinda hot. Next revelation, Helen Slater is wooden. Beautiful as she is there is a stiffness too her performance that I never noticed until now. Is that why there are so few SG scenes?

I agree about Dunaway, but not with HS. She does deliver quite a range of things, from her naive innocence on Argo, and inquisitive and sometimes puzzled Linda Lee. And while a lot of her time as SG is spent as wide eyed, confident and self assured she does deliver as the distraught captured heroine in Selena's castle and then later the powerless exile in the phantom zone.
Just checking - do you mean "few scenes" with
SG in the movie, or
my story so far? Just curious so I know how to reply to your question.

While Helen pulls off the innocent look pretty well, the way she delivered her lines definitely would not win her any awards. But I'm very sure we can all agree that she looked great in the costume. Helen Slater will always be Supergirl in my books.

Exxon, them is fighting words. Helen is amazing in the movie. The problems - and there are several - have nothing to do with her. I'm afraid apologies are in order...matter of honor. Nothing personal.
More importantly, glad others are enjoying AEM's story. At last, on that, we all agree.

I'd say most of the problems with the film are due to the complete idiot they had for a director and the writers. Still I am so grateful this film even exists as it does. If swartz hadn't had success with Jaws 2 I doubt we would have Supergirl the movie- or it would have been completely different. It is a bad movie but there are so many elements to it that until now I wasn't much of a fan of. Dunnaway and Brenda are seriously fun to watch and Jerry Goldsmith's score is incredible. And Helen, I wish she was in it even more than she is. Too bad they spent so much time with her as a student. If she was 19 (going by Helen's age) at the time why the hell is she still going to high school? I've never read the comic but I guess that's a part of the reason.
just my opinions but I love anything to do with this film in the forums. Keep going with the story- can't wait to see how it evolves.

Whoa, I love the movie ... and this story. Wish there was more of both. Just saying Helen’s performance was a bit flat. But yeah put her in the costume and we’re all good.
All I’m saying is we all want more Supergirl and clearly Abductor is da man to write it.

Whenever I see Peter Cook all I can think of is his sketches with Dudley Moore. Brilliant stuff if you haven't seen it.
Loving the story- thanks for the update. I am glad to say our stories won't cross paths- it's a relief really- I didn't want to step on your toes with all the work you've done. They are great companion pieces to this 80's classic.

Thanks Brdiy and Supergirl1984.
Brdiy - I wanted the story to have a logical progression of events and I always have liked seeing how a heroine's enemies are plotting against her. The computer class and the hockey match, while a bit boring are a way to show how Nigel as a Daxamite (in my story) has figured out what Linda Lee really is. And so with the party over with Selena also knows some more of who is after her, she has an advantage for now. What she will do with that advantage we have to wait and see!!

Haha- sorry I didn't like what I originally wrote and don't know how to delete a reply? My bad.
The tension is definitely building. I can't wait to see more of Kara as Supergirl.
Keep going this is going to be something special- if only we were around when they were writing the original script! The film might have actually been better.
Lol, I don't think the movie's target audience would have appreciated our sort of input!

Hahaha- but to be fair, they did put Helen through some horrible/ humiliating situations and I'll be forever thankful for them for doing that. You don't get that with any other superhero films and certainly not now thanks to metoo where they are basically all moody lesbians
I think it more likely they put the character, rather than Helen Slater through the mill, I don't recall her saying anything untoward about what went on, on set. Equally, I am sure you're not saying that you are grateful a young professional actress may have been mistreated, but rather how some of the shadier characters interacted with Supergirl in the movie. Just because I am a monster let's not drag poor Matt Frewer and Mr Mitchell down to my level, they seem like okay guys.

Whoa, go easy on that brewski, bro-ski. It's potent stuff even for a Daxamite. Uh oh, this could be trouble for the Secret Police/Gardener and obligatory hunk, Ethan. Loving the switched dialogue here. Clever plotting as usual, AEM!

Yes, he had some interesting ideas to come, I am sure and who knows - once he is feeling better he may come back and try again. And don't worry about me running out of steam. I didn't have the confidence to think I could just "wing it" and write something of this length on the fly and so the story was essentially finished before I even put up the title credits! I hope the pay-off will be to your liking - though - I am hoping that you will find there are several of them rather than just one - but we shall see

I like how you've rearranged the plot just enough in this series to mirror the movie but yet be different enough to be intriguing. I'm on the hook here. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, DrD.
In this story I've broadly re-sequenced the movie scenes but
not always what happens within the scenes themselves. I can understand then that while the motivations and dialogue are completely different in the tractor scene the events still played out the same. Selena seeks to get Ethan back. He then gets scooped up and Supergirl saves him. I can understand the quiet audience reaction while this scene played out - because everyone could see how it would go. I think once people see the knock on effects of minor details that happened during the tractor chaos it will generate more interest ... people might be playing "bingo", scratching off scenes as they appear and wondering what I might do with the scenes that are left ...

Hmmm, I am not sure if I alienated the audience with that scene or not ... it's gone a little quiet. Was it because it was her fantasy to be dominated that you didn't like? Or that I couldn't conjure up a full on lezdom scene in the trailer unit? Ah well, I am sure I will figure out this audience eventually...

Not really a fan of lezdom scenes, but that's just me. I'm pretty sure many others here do like it. For that scene, I would have wanted to see the truckers getting their way with SG, but I understand the limitations of the material (from the movie itself) that you have to work with, so I do appreciate that you have been creative so far with what you have done.

Hi all, the midweek update is coming shortly, I had opted to pause instead of posting yesterday because I wasn't sure if the story was having much impact. I went through all of June up until mid July (about a dozen updates) with only DrD commenting, and while I appreciate that you can understand that as he had some input into the story I don't see him as impartial. So, to finally finish one of the precious few main perilous scenes from the movie (one of the mini-pay offs as it were) and not get "paid-off" ... it was a little disheartening for me. I hope now that you understand what was in my head...
Now to address the comments ...

Yes, I think for the movie they were setting up for a more female biased environment. They are at a school for girls, the antagonist is a woman, whose sidekick is a woman etc, so my story is going to lean that way (and I tend to write F/f stories anyway). In terms of limitations you are right, I try and keep things as untouched as possible and trying to force something to happen that didn't usually ends up looking bad. Basically to get anything even remotely adult to happen would mean "borrowing" from other sources and it would look just awful if I photoshopped Helen Slater's head onto an adult-parody-supergirl's body (And likewise with Matt Frewer's head on some other adult performer
??) - No, I have a look in mind for what I make and I think the limitations are also a blessing
