He gave up control and Disney retcon what was canon. It wasn't like he couldn't have found a studio to have kept going if he wanted to decide how the last trilogy should have gone.

The whole franchise of films was pretty uneven. It’s not like Peter Jackson and Lord of the Rings. Remember, they gave us Jar-jar Binks and the Ewoks. After the first trilogy it was about fan service to see how much juice they could squeeze out of the lemon.

His claim that other people don't understand the Force is hilarious. Remember those stupid mitocontrarians or whatever it was he said gave you Force powers in the prequels? If that's how Lucas sees the Force then, well, there's really nothing lost is there.

Will never cease to be amazed that people can live in a universe where the prequels exist, the Christmas Special exists, the Ewok movies exist, those dozens of really, really crappy books exist, and think Lucas was doing a great job as custodian of the canon.

Disney far from perfect, far even from good let's be honest. But we got Rogue One, we got Andor. So it's been worth it. Lucas would never have thought to make something like that.
