Joining New Coke and cities who think they will make money on the Olympics in the legends of commercial disasters

Star Wars Hotel is closing

https://www.cnbc.com/2023/05/18/disney- ... utter.html

1. The cost was too much
2. Star Wars fans want the original, not Kathleen Kennedy's Star Wars

Hiton Las Vegas did a Star Trek experience not a hotel but a bar and resturant that worked and it was not priced outrageous.

I went to the Hilton Star Trek experience a few times. Was pretty cool but yeah it died. A hotel with Star Wars type stuff would have been good enough. Let you dress up. Maybe have some kind of alien cantina experience.

That other park attraction is failing too. Over priced, junk merchandise, people wanting old Star Wars.

I don't think the whole of the Galaxy's Edge park area is closing (though I could be wrong), just the stupid Starcruiser hotel thing.

I think even beyond Original Vs Sequels, the weak concept just doesn't feel like Star Wars. The whole idea of a commercial pleasure cruise liner in space feels like it would fit better in some other franchise or original lore. While Star Wars is superficially sci-fi, it has that adventurous fantasy tone, and I think this backstory of "you're on a commercial vacation... but in space!" is a bit too cynical to be immersive in a Star Wars setting for fans young or old.

Yes, it was called Avenue 5. Recent series with two seasons.

Hmmmmmm my strooooong guess would be... there's not enough interest in a hotel themed in this way considering the effort one must ordinarily undertake to reach it. Star wars is 'relatively' popular, and in the same way the Harry Potter land is very popular and acts as a draw for universal... there's STILL the rest of universal studios to visit (and Disneyland in the case of Galaxies Edge) but in terms of where you're SLEEPING in-between your days of having fun, I don't think people care as much as Disney was hoping.... SOME do, no doubt, but I don't think MOST do. MOST of us can barely afford an affordable hotel while on our Disneyland trip much less pony up a kings fortune just so we can keep LARPing as we walk down the hallway toward our rooms.

I don't know if there exists ANY franchise property that can, on entirely it's own merits, attract enough interest for something like this to be viable.

Disney had great sucess with theme hotels in the past, but this was too much money and had the wrong Star Wars.

For a couple of decades the theme hotels in Vegas were very popular as well

But yeah aren't those other disney hotels like... 'all encompassing' disney stuff? If you don't like one disney film, you might like another... so while you may not care for the 'Brave' themed room, you might geek out to find a 'Treasure Planet' themed room...... or something... idk I've never been. In Vegas you're also there for the strip, and the gambling keeps people adding funds to the hotel right? Was the Galaxies Edge hotel connected to the park? Or was it its own thing?

No idea on the location.

But getting back to the theme hotels. Yes in Vegas people go to gambles, I went for trade shows. ans since I am in a design field, I tend to look at that. The Paris and Venetian captured the essence of those cities very well.

I live in Vegas. The themed hotels don't draw people due to the themes. Sure they are nice but no one is going to the Excalibur for the theme (its a giant smelly ash tray at this point). The newest hotel Resort World (which is actually 3 hotels) has no real theme. Theme stuff kind of died 20 years ago. NY NY, Excalibur, Luxor etc are relics. Probably will get torn down at some point. The Luxor is actually a sinking hazard at this point. Apparently hollow pyramids are not structurally stable and the bottom sides are sliding out. And the Star Trek experience was abandoned as well. Circus Circus isn't really an attraction and nobody wants to go there cause its on the North end of the strip which is pretty dangerous.

I did say used to be popular

Last few times I sttayed I prefer to say at non casino hotels anyway

But the two are mentioned Veneitian and Paris were well done on the interiors

Less said about the Luxor the better, one of my worst stays.
I stay at Circus Circus once, only because I came at the last minute and that was the only room I could get

If I go ever again, I want to stay at the Platinum because among other things I don't have to pay $15.00+ to use the exercise room

I thought I was referring to Femina's post. But yes Red Rock, Durango, Sunset etc most of the modern off the strip clubs are far better. Then just take an uber into downtown. And the hotels will fee you to death. Resort fees etc. Also in hotel stuff is outrageous. Starbucks in the casino is nearly double price with grandes at $10. Yes Venetian and Paris look nice but dated. If you go to Paris go to Beer Park which is on the strip outside Paris next to the Eiffel tower. You can sit on the balcony and watch the strip at night and see the fountains. Only problem is Vegas has a horrible microbrew selection.

When I used to have to go every year, I found the best places to go off strip especially restaurants
I remember those Starbucks, I would walk the five blocks off the strip for my coffee fix

The only reason I want my trade shows to possibly return is because Vegas is safer than Chicago or California

Funny thing about the Luzor, I was doing some searching for a March 2024 trade show hotel stays, $35.00 a night.

I wonder if you have to sign a waiver about the hotel collapsig during your stay?

Be careful on this room rates. They tack an additional resort fee on. So the room might seem cheap but the resort fee and taxes add up.
