Before Blue Bombshell, before Empowered, before the phenomenon of breast enlargement comics
(but not before Penthouse Comix) there was a superbeing that strode proudly amongst the DC Universe.

In a 1998 issue of Young Justice, archeologist Nina Dowd discovered an alien artifact. Bathed in its eerie rays, it placed her inside a cocoon and transformed her. She became extremely shapely with huge breasts and beautiful cat-like face..the Mighty Endowed!

Her breasts could hypnotize any man - you couldn't look directly at them and not feel affected by mind-numbing lust.
Which was why in the comics she was always depicted with clouds of opaque smoke around her chest, so the reader was 'protected'.
Unfortunately, she was extremely top-heavy, and while trying to stand up, she would continuously fall over, which was her undoing.

Obviously, this was a parody on the overly endowed 'bad girls' in 1990s-era comics. But just as noticeable were the reactions of the male superheroes, such as Conner Kent, who was an oversexed teenager with raging hormones. He just could not help falling for Ms. Dowd's charms in physical combat, and there was nothing wrong with acknowledging that.

Fast forward a quarter-century, and the comic industry undergoes a curious retrogressive revolution of neo-puritanism.
This month, the Mighty Endowed returns in Dark Crisis: Young Justice and once again battles the teenage male heroes, while her breasts are still carefully covered in the smoke clouds.

But this time, the reaction of Superboy and his pals is very different: they are perplexed, dismayed, and find a possible need to go through 'therapy'. Basically, instead of a lustful teenage dream, it becomes a traumatic experience.

Believe me, I'd never heard of the Mighty Endowed character, either. And such a gimmick might ordinarily go unnoticed, buried in the annals of supernerd inside jokes, like Lex Luthor's 40 cakes. But Shane Davis did a whole video on the subject this week, after noticing this character's return in recent Young Justice, and pointed out that it wasn't the character who changed at all, but the writers' ability to write the character in a fun way. The entertainment value was lost.

By the way, here are the last two pages of Mighty Endowed's DC appearances, one year later after her debut, in 1999. Rather disappointing - they had a fun, parodic concept but were ultimately unable to execute it because of publishing standards. I think this is a character that would do quite well in the indie world. All she has to do is solve the problem of weighty mammaries - certainly it's as simple as some sort of 'support bra' armor.
