SHW did a vid with a Billionaire fighting Lexi Belle and a black heroine, vid is called something like Beaten by the Billionaire and starred the lovely Misty Stone. I think Wonder Kenna did one as well

HAPPY JUNETEENTH!

We have four black superpowered female characters so far in Heroineburgh.

Here's our track record with them, perilwise:

Episode 9 - the origin episode of Savanna (Dr. Anna Sauvage) shows her getting knocked out twice, before she succeeds in her
final battle against Serpenta. http://www.heroineburgh.com/video-store/

Episode 19 - Our newest episode! http://www.heroineburgh.com/season-two-video/

Part 1 shows Sintilla (Cynthia Mantilla) growing woozy and depowered because of Dyna's knockout gas. Dyna then puts her
in a dominant hold, ready to knock her out. But something else happens which changes their relationship....

Part 2 shows Sintilla completely passing out because of Arctica's freeze blasts...but is she playing possum?

But the best episode to start with would probably be Episode 18, where one of the story arcs features a completely all-black cast.
The story begins with the "hulk-out" transformation of Stacy Sauvage into Panthyra, who is considered the "black sheep" of her family and greatly resents her sister Anna (aka Savanna). Then Stacy's drug-dealing boss Cor'Von threatens their mother, to lure Anna into a battle. Panthyra fights her sister Savanna and defeats her, placing her in chains, and is about to "break her back" (Bane-style) in revenge. Just then, the villainess Vaporia (aka Victoria Vaughn, co-leader of the supervillain league Black Faction with her husband, corrupt cop Drake) appears in a puff of smoke. At first, she threatens Panthyra by choking her with her smoke vapor powers. But after that demonstration of dominance, Vaporia offers Panthyra an alliance to help defeat the Heroine League. What will become of Savanna??

Not only that...but Heroineburgh Comics Issue #2 also features a full battle (this one is outdoors right on the neighborhood street!) between Panthyra and Savanna..and Savanna doesn't fare too well in that one, either!

One of the reasons I don't like doing "ethnic" characters is trying to avoid stereotypes like the black heroine saying sugar or the Asian heroine talking in broken english. But then do you "americanize" them? I had one person complain my Elsa character (council villainess) was too weird german and "germans do not talk like that".

So it can be a no win or a pit of vipers.

Why do we have to worry about stereotypes? If your stories occur in the states, is it not assumed that an Asian heroine/villain is Asian American? As far as stereotyping a black heroine, you don't have to! If anyone is longing for a stereotype in this genre, that's a "them" problem, not the writers' and producers'.

Primal Fetish released a film about Vixen in April of this year. The model is Niccole Kit and I think she is attractive. I recommend it if you have not seen it.

Have this, and she is almost as gorgeous as Nafessa Williams! Kenna and Michael should definitely use her in more shoots in the future. One character I would love to see is Natasha Irons (the daughter of Steel), but Storm or Monica Rambeau would be very nice too.

Know what you mean, Mr. X. I don't want to sully up this particular thread, which is filled with so much black beauty, but I've had my encounters over the years with situations of "imposed wokeness" (with regards to superheroines, or comic books) where someone strongly suggests that you alter your own creations so you can comfortably dovetail with *their* ideology. Do you think a thread talking about such experiences is appropriate for this forum? Like telling these kinds of anecdotal tales but with the names changed so as to not 'call out' anyone.

You sound like someone with little to no experience around black people. I do not mean that as a personal attack. As most of you know I'm black.

I can safely say most black women do not say "sugar". Women from my generation (millennials) do not talk like that.

People often confuse race and culture. They're not the same. There are tons of different cultures and lifestyles associated with whites. Our race does not determine our culture. We determine our culture from what we want to enjoy in our lives and our lifestyles. I'm black and my culture is not black culture, hip hop, urban, etc. I don't like their music, their clothing style, or how they talk. Those are not my cultures.

I have a few black characters in my Superheroine Force series. One of a heroine, but she has only been mentioned thus far. As far as the other characters, some of them could be considered stereotypes and other characters are far from stereotypes. Diamond Star's friend Kimberly is black and she is a game designer. The main villain in Cosmic Angel's second book is black and he is a psychic.

You can use culture in unique ways to avoid offending people. One of my villains is Japanese. He speaks Japanese when he unleashes his signature technique. The words in Japanese are the name of the technique and describe its effects as well.

I feel like you're overthinking it a bit. Like if your question is do I "Americanize" them, I mean most of your stories take place in Delta City which I'm pretty sure is America unless Ms. Americana is just a really obnoxious foreigner so it goes to reason most girls that are going to be fighting crime there would be Americans, familiar with regular American ways of speaking. A little thing like calling someone sugar is probably weird fitting for a modern black girl who isn't in the south, but when characters are screaming "GREAT GODDESS OF GOT!" a little hammy speech isn't the end of the world.

Now broken English on the other hand, well that feels like one of those things that blur the line between fetish and stereotype. Some people find it hot, but if your character regularly operates in the country it's probably okay to assume they speak decent English. But ultimately that depends on what the appeal of that character is for you.

In short I feel like the issue boils down to are you just attracted to a different looking women or do you also need the ethnic stereotypes that you associate with her? Cool thing about America is that we're a big country so you can always find someone breaking stereotypes so if stereotypes are not what you're after just make the character you want.

I grew up in Chicago for over 25 years. I used the "sugar" thing as a bland example.
