He suceeded despite the establishment hating him and working against him from the Philly days to stealing the title from him at the end

If you were from the Boston area in the 80's, every Hagler fight was an event, he had the whole city behind him and pulling for him. I just saw that first round again today from that Hagler v Hearns fight and that was a slobberknocker classic indeed.
