Helen Slater as Supergirl: An Appreciation
So this will just be a thread I'm going to start where we can all share what we love most about the original Supergirl played by the wonderful Helen Slater. I will never forget the first time I was introduced to this film and I wondered to young self who is this utterly beautiful woman playing this superhero. My mates and I all said she's so better than Superman.
So yeah, I will upload some of my favorite Helen Slater images, feel free to add to the collection.

Just a mock ad I'd like to see. She had the most stunning blonde hair. I instantly had a crush on her.

Re: Helen Slater as Supergirl: An Appreciation
I believe she played the role to perfection. Every single shot of her on film is a work of art. The bright colors that burst off her clothing that yell "look at me!"
I did a bit of recoloring and increased some aspects but isn't she just a goddess in this role?
Leave your opinions of Helen as Supergirl, why aspects/ dislikes you have about the character in the film and what may have you wished had happened in the film?
Did you think she had a good arc to her character? I think you could really see her grow accustomed to Earth's environment over time. I do think that they managed to make her Linda Lee disguise really brilliant. It would be hard to see that this girl is Supergirl. I think I might have thought they were played by different actresses at one point.
I personally think the slime pit could have played out a bit longer though. See her really struggling. Or even having to fight a monster in the slime- like a giant octopus like creature or something that defeats her and takes her to a lair of hideous creatures and low lives- an arena if you will- where people have to battle for their freedom. And supergirl has no powers remember? And the overlord of all this is some hideous Jabba the Hutt/ Harkonan pig of a creature that wants Supergirl as his own personal slave.

Re: Helen Slater as Supergirl: An Appreciation
She was just stunning.
Hard to believe she didn't want my babies.
Think this one might be from her audition as she famously turned up in a home made costume, and this looks like it.

How strange are the ways of the gods ...........and how cruel.

Re: Helen Slater as Supergirl: An Appreciation
Personally for me she is THE Supergirl, I think just because she captures and portrays the character so well. She looks amazing in the costume, has that perfect mix of naïve innocence not being from Earth, but is also brave and commanding when she goes off to face danger, which conveys her strength and power. In costume she just has all of those traits of being strong and beautiful and graceful, but with enough humility to not think she's above anyone because of her powers.
It doesn't hurt that they also slipped in a slime peril scene in the film and she pulled that off wonderfully. Her reactions to have her powers stripped away, but also then finding the bravery to return and fight, all of that just makes her the perfect portrayal of the character. I've seen photo recreations/photoshop, but re-doing the Kryptonite scene with the chain from the Reeves film with her would be unreal.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Your description is perfect. I’ll try and do a Supergirl in kryptonite chain edit. I’ve seen someone do it before but it could be better. I’m surprised they didn’t use it in the film- although like you said she did lose her powers in the phantom zone.
I agree with the way Helen played it- that she knew she had these powers but wouldn’t use them unless she was being threatened/ she didn’t act like she was more powerful than normal humans. That nativity that she brought to the character was so adorable.

Re: Helen Slater as Supergirl: An Appreciation
Helen Slater in 1984 shortly after production. The film itself was shot in mid 83 if I’m not mistaken. Just so much beauty/ warmth in those eyes.

I know a lot of publicity pics are here but when we have someone else's work involved we should at least try and give them credit. I believe the artist for this just stunning manipulation ( which I would love to be able to match ) is called RustedPeaces at Deviantart, though I may be mistaken.Supergirllegend wrote: ↑2 years ago d4l7pqw-5a7000ca-4dde-49e2-b421-37365ec24c6d.jpg

My apologies. Credit goes to RustedPeaces. If I find any in the future I'll be sure to add that. There was no credit where I found it on google images. I don't like the thought of ripping off someone else, I mean what am I gaining from posting this? But yeah, in future if I find something that looks original I'll find and note the original author.
