Supergirl‘s tenure as the resident defender of National City is reaching an unexpectedly early conclusion. The upcoming sixth season of The CW’s superhero series will be its last, TVLine has learned.
Production on Supergirl‘s 20-episode final season is slated to begin later this month; the show’s creative team is already developing storylines.

Re: Supergirl Season 6 (the final season)
Somehow sad, but the logic step as the show was on the downhill for quite a while.
I still watched it and enjoyed it (mostly).
But the pantssuit was a horrible mistake that drove off a lot of (male) viewers that were following the shows despite some flaws.
I'm sure the numbers for season 5 would have been better with the skirt from season 1-4.
Plus the new Superman&Lois show was perhaps planned as successor as they already knew when to end the Supergirl show.
And as Melissa is pregnant that surely shifted what is most important for her.
I'm hoping that they find a reason to put Melissa in that iconic outfit again in season 6.
At least for one episode, that would be nice.
And I hope they find a solid ending at least.

Re: Supergirl Season 6 (the final season)
I still maintain the pant suit was because she was going to be pregnant and they wanted to transition her into the new suit so she wasn't so uncomfortable being pregnant and wearing a skirt. Also that some other stand ins could play her if need be. maybe it also helped with CGI. I know Gal Gadot was pregnant for the whole WW movie and they CGI out the baby bump.
But yes ratings dropped. Kind of think this will also happen to the Superman show. May also kill any other shows in the future.

Yeah, this was inevitable. I found out first about this from a Yellow Flash video.
Ratings went down. Melissa's starting a family. I'm sure she wants to do other things.
And Superman & Lois is on the way. Hopefully Melissa will make a guest appearance on that show now and then, but I can't wait to see lots of Bitsie Tulloch on the screen as Lois. I'm betting that most likely she will be doing a good amount of saving Clark and others, this being Current Year. Hopefully she'll even get powers at some point, and maybe they will last longer than in the Ultrawoman episode of Lois & Clark.
Let's relish the final 20-episode run and glean what we can from it. It ain't no Harley or Boys.

Re: Supergirl Season 6 (the final season)
What are we going to do without Supergirl to complain about anymore? Seriously though, the show vacillated between a decent show to watch and below, subpar, insipid writing with silly, non interesting, and uninspired storylines. The show's biggest failing in my view was not being able to find Kara a suitable love interest with which she could have some chemistry with. Kara with James was boring, and Mon-El and William were doing their best David Schwimmer/Ross impression from the sitcom Friends as they looked at her with puppy dog eyes while weak in the knees. Kara never had that dynamic love interest. No Felicity Smoak or Iris West-Allen anywhere in sight as a ride or die mate.

Re: Supergirl Season 6 (the final season)
Being the most poorly written show in the Arrow-verse, it wasn't so surprising. That change of costume last season probably broke the camel's back as it lost what could have been the best (if not the only) reason to watch show in the first place.
I hope they do a better job at crafting stories for Superman and Lois.

Re: Supergirl Season 6 (the final season)
Supergirl was a victim of The Asshole Effect. Andrew Kreisberg was one of us. Sadly, he was also a titanic asshole who so bullied and harassed people on set that he got himself fired. In the aftermath of all that the powers that be handed the show over to do-gooders who eliminated all the sexy and all the action, leaving a hollow shell where a decent if poorly written show used to reside. Seasons 4 and 5 are really bad taken on their own, but compared to the first two seasons and parts of the third they are abysmal. Who cares when it ends. The show is unwatchable.
Re: Supergirl Season 6 (the final season)
I gave up after part of 3rd season. I've got them all recorded but have no desire to watch them. Will get to them one day I suppose. When they turned her into a mess in this last season with a pants suit (and her seeming delighted and grateful that she could finally wear pants! Gee there's an emancipated powerful female role model for ya who can't even decide to wear a pants suit on her own) and the bloody awful fringe, it killed any enthusiasm I had left to follow her on the journey.
Melissa in the skirt costume was sexy as hell then they turned into Superman with long hair

I loved the show and will miss it. Yes there were times, it made little sense. They wasted James and Winn and that episode where Jeremiah Danvers comes back made no sense whatsoever. The loss of Cat Grant was noticeable. They had to villians that they did not use well. The first one was Maxwell Masters and then there was that guy Edge.
Sorry to see Supergirl go but it did give me some very good episodes.

Sad to see now both her AND Ruby leave....a pair that should have ended up in at least some lesbian sexual tension scenes together...you KNOW Kate would have lapped Kara into mindless orgasms if she could! I love Melissa Benoist but the writing and costume at the end was horrible...at least if she was eye candy and in peril the value would have been much higher, put her in more Batman 66 traps

I think the main reason Callista Flockhart's Cat Grant left the show was because they were moving the production of the show from the L.A area to Vancouver and Flockhart did not wish to relocate to Vancouver for an extended period of time.Bronson881 wrote: ↑3 years ago I loved the show and will miss it. Too bad they couldn't move production to the warmer climes of Georgia, where they're doing their production of Stargirl and Black Lightning. Then we wouldn't have "the cold" as an excuse for them to get rid of the skirt! Should've never left California and CBS!
My 2 cents.

Re: Supergirl Season 6 (the final season)
The problem with being on a big 3 network like CBS though is that shows need a higher ratings threshold to remain on the network schedule and Supergirl's ratings that first season simply were not good enough to keep it on the network's grid. If there were no CW, I imagine they might have just barely secured a second season on CBS, but that they would have been on an endangered species list with a quick trigger to be cancelled after 3 or 4 episodes into a second season if there ratings had not improved substantially. There is no way in my view that we would be looking at a sixth season for Supergirl had it remained on CBS, that the show benefited from being on the CW based on similar Arrowverse shows on the network, giving it a synergy with those shows, and in addition to that, being on the CW reduced to a significant degree the high ratings pressures being on CBS presented, and the rather modest numbers that was needed to have a longer term run on the fledgling CW, not to mention the the young demo numbers the show needed to achieve, both numbers were within what the other Arrowverse shows were tracking, ensuring the longer six season run of the series.Danorian wrote: ↑3 years ago Too bad they couldn't move production to the warmer climes of Georgia, where they're doing their production of Stargirl and Black Lightning. Re: Supergirl Season 6 (the final season)
If the CW hadn't existed, Supergirl might have survived on a cable network or Netflix trying to get viewers using an established show. Or maybe it might have gotten to survive by tying it to another show as a package deal.
The fact that the CW had so many related shows filling its schedule makes it more likely that they all get renewed despite a general ratings decline for all of them. Making it to 6 seasons is partially when the contract runs out for the title character.

The ratings didn't just drop, they had absolutely tanked from the first couple of seasons and were pretty bad the last two. It didn't help that the writing was all over the place and they made the costume change. Kind of sad, this show had a lot of potential, and doesn't really give me hope for Batwoman making it much past season 2 given how much of a character/writing mess that is going to be with RR leaving.

It's weird that nearly everybody is so sure that it will be a big blow to the show instead of a big chance. The whole thing can actually improve the situation as I wrote at the Batwoman topic. I see it as a chance. I'm not 100% certain they will use the chance....but, I have high hopes. And as long Kate returns late in the season (which I think will happen), the Kate Kane "followers" will be happy again too.RedMountain wrote: ↑3 years ago ....

Back to topic, an addition to my first post in this topic:
I re-watched seasons 1-3 over the last months and enjoyed it for the most part.
Mainly for these reasons:
- action scenes
- Supergirl in boots and pantyhose (great outfit)
- Supergirl in peril
- Supergirl with secret identity issues
- Villainesses like the masked Reign for example
Will re-watch season 4 in the upcoming months before season 6 starts.
No reason to re-watch season 5 in the next.....years....at least.

Laura Vandervoort was Mystique-level smokin' as Indigo in the Supergirl TV show. It was a perfect (and quite early) nod to Smallville.Danorian wrote: ↑3 years agoLaura played such a lovely Kara IMHO. She was in amazing shape at that point.
This is a very tight costume which simply looked fantastic! (Much like the original Thunder New 52 costume from that one episode of Black Lightning). The costume for Brec on Stargirl was almost as form-fitting.
Why can't they make more of these kinds of costumes? (I mean, we know why, but still....)

Re: Supergirl Season 6 (the final season)
Warner Brothers is pushing a DC Multiverse so they can use actors from different versions without having continuity issues. It lets them bring back an old Michael Keaton Batman. This would allow them to fix complaints about versions that aren/t liked as much anymore.

Oh, well, not the type of mask I was looking for....
But perhaps there will be more masked villainesses along the way.
I hope that season 6 will provide some memorable scenes as a last hurray.
It may take quite a long time until we see so much of that character again on TV (other than small(?) appearances in some movies)

No problemo with her Kryptonian genes

And indeed, really cool that the bangs are gone!

Was so distracted by the mask on the picture I first saw of her on set, that I didn't notice.
As it is written in the bible, chapter 234, book of hairdom:
"No human shall have bangs as it is a sin of the worst kind!"

Supergirl posted a teaser on Twitter.
I must say this teaser looks 100% more promising than everything from season 5. The fight scenes from the brief footage look much better and modern instead of the 1960s videography from last season.
Lex has super powers again. He appears to have more powers than his previous experience. This version of Lex is fantastic for SHIP material. He doesn't need the usual Kryptonite trap to defeat Supergirl.
However, we may once again have the plot hole of other heroes not joining the battle. It will be unacceptable if nobody from the other shows help when Lex takes over the world.

Yeah, that is disappointing.
But well, looking forward to what they come up with in the final season.
And even season 5 of Supergirl was better than no Supergirl at all.
I hope we still say after season 6 that the fifth was the weakest.

Re: Supergirl Season 6 (the final season)
We have a new preview for next week! Plot holes are out of control!
Re: Supergirl Season 6 (the final season)
Guess I'm the first one to post about S6 E1?
Not just plot holes, but MacGuffins and Deus ExMachinas galore, the majority of them Martian for some weird reason.
Like for example:
1) J'onn and M'gann pull a random "Martian ritual" out of nowhere
2) Using her Martian tech, Alex pulls the exact piece of technology out of nowhere that can stop Gamemnae
3) J'onn pulls the story of an old Martian "partner" he had out of nowhere, to give Alex her new superhero name, Sentinel.
(with the random power of the Martian trinket Hand of the Solider, which creates random technology whenever she needs it,
her new superhero name should be MacGuffin Woman or MacGyver Girl)
How many people on this forum, back in Seasons 1 or 2, thought to themselves that it was inevitable that they would eventually give Alex a costume, powers, and a superhero name? I wonder if any of us posted that (I can't remember if I did).
Here is an article about the history of the DC name "Sentinel". It was only ever used to refer to one person: a transformed Alan Scott
in the New 52 after he was no longer the Golden Age Green Lantern and was retconned as gay. So they gender-flipped the character name but kept the LGBT content. Chyler Leigh is a good actress, but I'm already not a big fan of her heroine incarnation's severe lesbian haircut, and the powers are just one giant MacGuffin.
https://screenrant.com/supergirl-sentin ... ty-comics/
The other thing about this episode is the severe amount of "feelings". This is by no means new to Supergirl or any of the CW shows, but it seems especially apparent in the episodes that Jay Faerber writes. Years ago, when he was creating such comic book masterpieces as Noble Causes and Dynamo 5, he very much treated superheroes as individuals who were part of families and relationships, and that was interesting when it was mixed with the action. Here, except for the final battle which is almost too brief, there is considerably more talking about feelings than there is action: several "I love yous", mutual affirmations, morale boosts and the like.
Really interested to see if all the growling villains in the Phantom Zone (whom they show right at the end) get a good chance to tear into the Girl of Steel in the next episode....
Luckily we also get one of the more dramatic scenes of peril in recent memory. Here is a taste. There's even a brief "limp wrist check" - isn't that the kind of trope we usually see in SHIP videos? First time I remember seeing it on a superhero show.
Also, when J'onn puts up Sentinel's new "symbol" in the Hall of Justice (seen on the far right with his glove) can anyone refresh my memory as to what those two symbols are to the left? Obviously we've got Supergirl, Batwoman, Flash and Martian Manhunter,
but what are the next two (the swirl and the three dots). Is one of those Dreamer?

Re: Supergirl Season 6 (the final season)
I was happy to have the Supergirl show back and was hoping for a fantastic final season but I have to agree with a lot of what Shevek says just above. The entire show felt very rushed to me with them solving problems that were built up over the course of a season with simple solution and figurative smiley tip of the hat. It was all pretty disappointing. I know that they had to work around Melissa's limited availability while shooting about six or seven episodes but it feels for yet half another season it'll be the Superfriends show rather than the Supergirl show and for a final season, that's very unsatisfying. I'm barely looking forward to the rest of this season now at this point.
Some decent fight scenes but honestly, my heart's no longer in this show. And it's not because the peril scenes aren't there. It's because the emotional grounding felt rushed as much as the solutions.

Sad.

I felt like I was watching an episode Dragon Ball Z. Did anybody throw a punch in any fight besides Alex punching Lex? I only recall long range attacks of bullets and energy. The fights were much better than every fight from season 5.
I thought Lex was defeated way too soon.
I wasn't annoyed by Brainy for the first time in the series. That's a point.

Re: Supergirl Season 6 (the final season)
Considering how long they had to write this episode you would think it would be better. We discussed poor continuity between the different shows that are now supposed to be in the same Earth, but poor continuity from last season of the same show? This was let's wrap up last season in an episode so we can forget it.
Lillian Luthor's character was almost completely different with her now caring about saving Lena, the bastard child of her husband with another woman. Sure Lillian wanted to male sure she didn't die as part of Lex's plan, but last season she was mad that Lex saved Lena and not her during the Crisis. Now she has a minor role in Lex's plan. Also Lex no longer cared about Lena, because she killed him first, when Lillin tried to poisonLex before that happened.
Lex was the best part of the last two seasons and it looks like he's being written out after this in favor of something else.

Actually, it was Lena who punched Lex I believe. She asked Alex if that was okay and Alex said to Lena, "No, it's fine, family first." Or something like that.ThePornCritic wrote: ↑2 years ago I felt like I was watching an episode Dragon Ball Z. Did anybody throw a punch in any fight besides Alex punching Lex? As for Brainy, still not a fan. Very little believability at 12th level intelligence. I'm kind of okay with how they resolved him and Dreamer though. And less comic relief from Brainy was certainly welcome.
As for the relationship between the Danvers sisters, they brought that back on track, too, somewhat. We'll see if they ever get it fully back to what it was before Alex's brain was wiped and then restored.
