This was in the NY Post and I thought it would be a good question for the board. So, who was the best Catwoman??

julie newmar....plenty of "t & a" and what a pair of legs!... also that show required her to play a "campy" catwoman and she did a great job of it.....
Such are promises
All lies and jest
Still, a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest Simon & Garfunkel

Oddly enough, on the New York Post site, Michelle Pfeiffer is getting all the attention. But yeah, Im in the Newmar camp.
Eartha Kitt, Newmar played Catwoman. Kitt lived it, and she got her lez vibe on with Batgirl.
Damn right!Rye wrote:Ms Newmar... fo sho!
This is a no contest I am guessing that Michele and Anne are getting a young vote because the original TV series seems hard to get in any decent quality LOL!
Sure the other actresses are pretty hot BUT this is about Catwoman and Julie is THE Catwoman
Nice Poll MH

I'm going with Anne Hathway. She was pretty much as close I saw to my perfect version of CW.
I think you are right about generational preference. I did not see Anne Hathaway as effective in the role but than I thought Christian Bale was terrible as Batman; good as Wayne, but not as the Bat.
Plus of course the TV Cats had a lot more plot variety to play with and explore the character, with Catwoman dominating whole episodes and sharing the villainy in others, rather than just having 20-30 mins of mostly shared screen time in the movies.Dazzle1 wrote:sgz6 wrote:I wonder if this one comes down to generation?

We got to see her boss her minions, pull multiple heists, have all kinds of villainous schemes to dispose of the heroes, seduce upstanding citizens, toy with her captives , propose to Batman and idley threaten to kill Robin so they could be together and generally gloat at their downfall.
And capture Batgirl to boot.(would've loved to see Julie with the Pattern Cutter, good as Kitt is)
I think those of us favouring NEWMAR or Kitt just had a lot more enjoyable moments to recall than the film renditions offered for Pfeiffer, Merriweather, or Hathaway fans.
NEWMAR was the gal for me.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm betting a lot of people don't even know about Julie Newmar but were probably right around "that age" when Pfeiffer hit the screen. And I have to agree about Hathaway. She surprised me, I didn't think she was good for that role until I saw the movie. I liked her acting and she looked good doing it.
I think it was Dina Meyer in BoP.Dazzle1 wrote:If we are talking non porn Batgirls the choices are:TIEnTEEZ wrote:Someone should start a "who's the best Batgirl thread."
Yvonne Craig
Alicia Silverstone
and whoever the actress was on Birds of prey
So who would vote against Craig?
You are right of course, no contest.

Say whaaaaaaaaaaa? I didn't think I was being mean . I was saying the younger generations barely know about 60's Batman so for them Pfeiffer was their Catwoman.
You'd be surprised how many people are out there that have no idea Adam West did anything besides Family Guy.

Dina Meyer is super-hot, though. Not Yvonne Craig hot. But hot.

I think the guys that got helped out through puberty by M.P. are also acquainted with the old show. Back in the early 90s it was still heavily broadcasted in my country, and it probably goes to this day but on more obscure channels. I'd expect it's more probable youngsters first acquainted with the character through the role played by Anne Hathway are unfamiliar with the older interpretations.
Anyway, for me it's really hard to choose between the ladies leading the poll since both were stunning back in their day. I'd say Newmar was a better Catwoman, thanks to her build and costume, but if I had to make a choice, I'd have asked Michelle Pfeiffer out.

For me it was Eartha Kitt....obviously because it was so Taboo to have her strap sexy me(batgirl) to the pattern cutter....her laying the flower on her chest was the icing on the cake.....delicious! Also the fact she was a petite african american woman added to the taboo for me....it was amazing....but I ALSO LOVE Julie Newmar....she is probably the hottest of the group....so tall...such a lezdom like feline woman...love her demenor
I was thinking the same thing. The Newmar/Batman chemistry was nixed when Kitt replaced her. It would have been WAY out of line for 1969 to have a black woman trying to seduce a white guy. But fortunately the Lesbian subtext of the pattern cutter scene was okay. I think the taboo nature of a black lesbian villainess made Kitt even more attractive as Catwoman.

as far as it being 1969 and taboo, it would have raised the profile of a show that was about to be cancelled. the year before was the famous Kirk/Uhura kiss
The k/U kiss was controversial, but it was a forced one off (good for the mind control types, I guess), but Batman/Catwoman was an on going sexual tension storyline. It would never have made it on air. Which would you rather see? The lost episode of Batman being seduced by a black Catwoman, or Catwoman placing Batgirl in bondage perils? Personally, I would rather see Catwoman forcing her attentions on Batgirl rather than treating her like another distraction (like robin always was). Thank God Newmar wasn't available or those classic Batgirl/Catwoman episodes might have been a lot more like the Riddler/ steamroom episodes, since by season three they weren't spending the money on the sets like they did in the first two years.
Batman was in reruns by the time I was born, but I vividly remember watching and admiring Julie.
However... The episode where Batgirl was tied up with what looked like fishing line and had to roll and hit the sprinkler system to get free was easily one of the hottest things I ever saw growing up.

If the question was worded: Who's Your Favorite Catwoman, I'd pick Julie Newmar without hesitation.
But as asked: Best Catwoman, for me it's a three-way tie: Julie, Michelle, and Anne. And now that I think about it, I would really like to see that three-way (all three being in their prime naturally)!

Right. I took that wording from the NYPost article, but you bring up a good point. One reason why I thought Julie Newmar was a great Catwoman, besides her obvious beauty and curves and sexuality, she had an equally sinister side. Newmars character would often mention killing Batman or Robin or expressing glee at watching them die but the way she articulated it could be a little unnerving. She would usually say it with this reserved delivery and I remember thinking as a kid, this was one bad cat. But then she would turn on the charm and use her sexuality to try to get with Batman.theScribbler wrote:If the question was worded: Who's Your Favorite Catwoman, I'd pick Julie Newmar without hesitation.

I liked Michelle and Anne as well. I thought if they had put Halle Berry in some peril I would've liked it more but that movie didn't move the needle for me.

I agree about your Newmar comments, but I don't see it with the other towo.
Michelle played the role as the psychotic Catwoman
Hathawy left me cold, she look liked Batgirl morethan Catwoman and a batgirl with no sex appeal.
I think that episode probably started a lot us down the road to super heroine fetish-land.Rye wrote:Batman was in reruns by the time I was born, but I vividly remember watching and admiring Julie.

No doubt they were all hot. I certainly think Halle Berry's costume was terrible. Seeing Halle in more of a 60's or even the Pfeiffer costume I think would have been far better.
For me without question the hottest is Lee Meriwether. I'm always surprised that I'm in the minority and I think that might be because not as many people have seen the 60s movie as much as the episodes. Don't get me wrong Julie is unreal and in fact, definitely probably fills the suit out best, but Lee's performance is just crazy hot! I might be reading into it, but she seems extremely horny the entire time. She even makes noise like she's in heat a couple times and she's down right orgasmic in some scene. Super hot. I just wish she would have done a few episodes as the character too.
A side note, it's a shame that Julie's costume wasn't fitting quite as properly in her first episode. It was a little loose. They certainly took care of it in subsequent episodes.

Was the movie or the series first? I think Newmar was more sensual. I like Meriwether just not as much as Newmar.CCFan wrote:No doubt they were all hot. It's a tie between Julie Newmar and Eartha Kitt. Julie played her more playfully, and Eartha played her with a decidedly much, much more evil bent. I guess it depends on what you are going for. It would have been interesting to see Julie Newmar's interaction with Yvonne Craig, but we'll never know how that would have turned out. I love Eartha's purr... just sayin'
Fitness wise Halle Berry Sexiest Catsuit and Looker Michelle Pfeiffer Great Figure Julie Newmarr Biker Babe Anne Hathaway Joanna Lumley once did a photoshoot in Catwoman style outfit and she certainly showed (as she also showed as Purdey) she had the looks, figure, sexiness, fitness and style to be a magnificient Catwoman Who would forum members love to see fill the boots of their Catwoman ?MightyHypnotic wrote:This was in the NY Post and I thought it would be a good question for the board. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure when they decided to go with 5'3" Yvonne for Batgirl, that sealed the fate for Julie at 5'11" to not be Catwoman anymore. They couldn't have a Catwoman so visually imposing to Batgirl. Thus enter 5'4" Eartha Kitt.JWeathers wrote:It's a tie between Julie Newmar and Eartha Kitt. I believe the situation was that Julie was contracted to do a movie and had to skip that season. But you are correct, Yvonne was pleased because Kitt was more her size.theScribbler wrote:I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure when they decided to go with 5'3" Yvonne for Batgirl, that sealed the fate for Julie at 5'11" to not be Catwoman anymore. For me, it's a no brainer ... Julie Newmar is the main reason why I started having interest in superheroines and villainness.
She was so sexy !
Would be curious to see the results for a similar poll but regarding the fetish genre.
Again, it would be a no brainer for me as Diana Knight IS the ultimate Catwoman !

I disagree Christina Carter comes closer to the Julie Newmar cat
I like Lee Merriweather and Anne Hathaway, but loved Julie Newmar.
I read somewhere she was cast as Catwoman at the last minute. She was in NY and insulted that she was offered the role on Thursday and, if she accepted, she had to be in LA by Monday. Her brother, who was visiting from Harvard when she told him, levitated from the couch. "Everyone quits their studies to watch that show!" I think I remember him being quoted as saying. "You've got to do it." So she did it.
Wow, did she ever do it.

A person's favourite is often the one who most affected them at the right time in their life. I was never a big fan of the Batman TV show, probably as I wasn't even born when it was broadcast. I do have fond memories of seeing repeats and the movie, but I wasn't ever mad about the show. Batman became interesting to me with Michael Keaton, so maybe it isn't surprising Michelle Pfeiffer is my favourite Catwoman.
The best? Maybe Anne Hathaway in being closest to the comic book vision of the character. Personally, I prefer the Burton's magical Catwoman story of Kyle brought back alive by her feline friends and later surviving being shot several times ...

Which comic book era for Batmam, the first era when she was introduced, the corny 60s, the reboot, or the Dark Knight taking its theme from Burton and the cartoon series?
either way Hathawy is the least like Catwoman except for Halle Barry. she is bat Girl and a sexless one at that.
