Now that the Doctor has been female and eventually black

What is missing?

There has never been a Jewish/Israeli companion or Hispanic companion

There could also be a non sterotypical American companion. Peri was every California girl cliche

A dalek.

I've always been of the view that it can be fun to have an interstitial companion like Turlough, Nardole or Jack Harkness, as well as one from modern Earth; an alien or future human who's more worldly than the human companion, but isn't quite on the level of the Doctor. Just gives more potential for fun dynamics when characters are interacting with alien or future cultures; and indeed when the Doctor and the non/future-human companion are interacting with normal earthlings.

So here’s my idea… he picks up two female cosplayers at convention. One is dressed as Gal Godot WW and the other as Batgirl… it would be very meta…

Leela was definitely my favorite companion growing up. And Peri did have awesome tits.

Vickie and Zoe were future era companions but not worldly

You do understand that the Doctor is a specific individual, don't you? It's not a title that's passed down. Romana can't 'be a Doctor'. She's Romana.

I think she means a Time Lord. A hot iteration of Romana would not be unwelcomed… the Dr’s daughter (Jenny) would be cool, too. She was easy on the eyes and was literally the daughter of one of the earlier doctors, Peter Davidson.

I wanted them to kill off the doctor and replace him. Basically the last doctor brings on a Gallefrain in their first life as an assistant. The doctor dies and passes on some of his intellect and memories to the new person who then assumes the title of Doctor. Kind of like Dread Pirate Roberts. That new person could then be anyone like a woman etc. Would allow them to reexplore old enemies as new to this doctor.

Sounds a lot like a regeneration….

The problem isn’t the lack of a new Doctor…. It’s the absence on fresh ideas.

Scrappy Doo, Batmite, Cousin Arnold (Brady Bunch) we’re all added to fix stale writing and they seldom work (with the exception of Batgirl, even though, the show was still sliding).

There is a youtube documentary that discusses that scrappy doo actually saved the Scooby Doo franchise.

True the real culprit is stale writing.

Why can't someone inherit the name? Doctor IS a title. Its not a name. How does one tell the difference between a regeneration and someone else taking the mantle?

Some taking on the mantle of “the Doctor” is mimicry. They are confined by the cannonicle standards of the the Doctor… he has to act in a way that makes others believe he/she is the Doctor. Jelly babies, long scarf, fez hat… whatever. Something like that could be done, but it is more a spin off.

Giving Romana the keys to the Tardis and a sonic screwdriver would be pretty cool. She was her own character, a Time Lord, a different approach to problem solving. It would freshen up the format and give her the chance to make regrettable choices. A issue with the Doctor is that in-universe, he has become this mythologically powerful character. The Daleks, Ood, Cybermen,The Silence, etc…. Hold him as this powerful and dangerous character. Replacing him with Romana as Tardis pilot might be fun.

The next Doctor should be that "I'd buy that for a dollar" guy in the fake TV show in the first Robocop movie. Always walking around with two bimbos.

Right so clearly you just don't know the show like, at all, then, even slightly. 'The Doctor' is the title taken by a SPECIFIC Time Lord. That particular guy, and no-one else, is the Doctor. It is effectively his name, though he does have a 'true' name that he keeps hidden. We don't ever learn much about the particulars of how Time Lord naming conventions work, but it's pretty clear that (some of?) them choose these as particular, personal noms de plume. While the title certainly has some personal meaning for the Doctor, it isn't a job, or a role. It's him.

Besides, other Time Lords can tell the difference between regenerations and impostors.

Yes, someone said make her a hot blonde with brains...so let her have a PhD or be someone of extreme high IQ for a human, a genius in the body of an angel!
...and neither do you, apparently. Romana is not a human. She's a Time Lord as well.

The only one who would look good wearing a boater’s hat and tweed minidress would be Lalla, especially if it was accented with a thick cleave gag and a half mile of rope.

He's become/becoming EVERYBODY. So what's the difference. How is a guy who becomes every single type of person any different than different people taking a turn. By all means maybe some of his memories get passed onto the new Doctor or whatever.

The pooch is screwed at this point. I don't know how people who shit the bed and tore down every rule then think there are some kind of rules. replace the guy with a woman. Replace the guy with every minority and sexual orientation under the sun... oh but he's somehow the same guy... sure. Throw the rules out... throw them all out.

This is Theseus's boat on steroids.

Now you listen

and you listen very, VERY carefully

It is quite, QUITE obvious, that your knowledge of this series is entirely limited to youtube wojaks whingeing about how wokeism is ruining Dr Who blah blah blah. You have absolutely no knowledge AT ALL about anything in this series. Dr Who started out as a fucking educational show in the 1960s that cost 2p an episode. The rules about Time Lords and regeneration and shit have changed gradually over the franchise's 60-year history. The Doctor's personality often changes RADICALLY between incarnations. Compare the smooth James Bond-ish Jon Pertwee to the mad-hatter freak Tom Baker to the boater-wearing everyman Peter Davison to the borderline psychopath Colin Baker

The Doctor has never had a consistent sexual orientation. Even back in the 60s they never felt the need to nail that down. He is, also

AN ALIEN

He's not human. To them, changing skin colour and gender could be completely trivial. Dr Who has, for quite a while, implied that a lot of advanced/future societies see having a specific sexual orientation as a little bit strange or whimsical (see Captain Jack Harkness, for instance), and I doubt very much that the Doctor would tie himself down to those sorts of categories.

Stay in your lane.

So you make my case. He's an alien... so anything can be anything and everything can be anything... great. What a cop out
The Doctor has never had a consistent sexual orientation.
Yes, he's straight. No indication otherwise. Given your reasoning every character on every show that ever existed that never showed any sexual activity could be literally anything on an even linear scale. Also any historical figure for that manner. Pertwee was a perve, The Dr. fell in love with Rose. Baker had flirtive relationships with he female cohorts. And the reason there wasn't any sexual hanky panky was it was a kid's show. Davidson didn't bag Perry for example but that was due to the restrictions. Plus the show is not about sex. Was Bozo the Clown and Capt Kangaroo gay? Never saw them with wives so they could be literally anything... right... at a time when LGBT were underground and straight was the normative... yeah

Also I watched these Pertwee episodes when they were new so yeah, I know the show.

Captain Jack Harkness was bi or gay. That does not mean the doctor was.
The rules about Time Lords and regeneration and shit have changed gradually over the franchise's 60-year history.
If the rules can change then they can change.

But this is a grand example of YOUR hypocrisy. Look what happens when someone threatens or tries to change what YOU liked about the show. You SHIT. But then you condemn other people WHO GREW UP WITH THE SHOW SEEING EPISODES LIVE and they don't like the changes. You literally have no ability to see anything from anyone else's point of view and you just cry. You literally lack empathy.

The stupid show changed regens IN ONE EPISODE. So yeah if the rules can get trashed then trash them all. You don't give a fuck when you ruin it for others (out of some busted 1980s desire to rebel) so why can't others come into your Honey comb hide out and pee on your walls. What a load of sheer hypocrisy.

"We'll shit on your franchise but once we change it you better not touch it". Yeah sure.

The Doctor that fell in love with Rose also snogged Jack Harkness.

The difference between what I'm complaining about and what you're complaining about is that I complain about script problems; character miswriting; moral idiocy. You're complaining that they cast a black actor to play an alien.

If the Doctor was suddenly a cruel, nebbish coward; a half-witted dullard; or a scheming villain; that would be messing with his character. Making him black, making him express romantic affection for someone of his own gender - for the specific kind of character that the Doctor is, that doesn't matter. I'm not rebelling. I just actually understand the show, and I have a sense of perspective.

I don't want the show to be bad. That's what I don't want. You don't want the Doctor to be black, gay, or a woman.

Spare the Motte and Bailey logical fallacy.

There is no reason to race or gender or sexual orientation swap the figure and if that can occur then the guy could be a bunny rabbit or anything.

The swaps are done for ideological reasons and to piss off the old fan base out of some busted old 1980s rebellion motivation. NitU has admitted this. The people who do this flat out admit it and brag about it.

And its pretty obvious the race and gender swaps were done so fans complain so little heroes like you can scream "racist" or sexist.

I can repeat myself over and over again that I don't care if someone is black, that's not the issue. The swap is the issue.

BTW what's "white washing"? What's that complaint? Was it OK when Depp played Tonto? Scarlet Johanson played Ghost in the Shell? I see plenty of people on your side of the isle scream murder when a non-trans person plays a trans person or a black actress isn't black enough.

Spare me the attempts at punking someone with a swap. if Black Panther was swapped with an Asian dude would the fans have to just STFU or be called racist for not accepting the swap?

The swap is the issue... the swap done for ideological BULLSHIT... not the actual race of the person.

Also lets add one more thing. If the Doctor happened to come out black then he's black... no big deal. But when YOUR SIDE declares for months he will be black then accuses everyone of racism and spikes the football in everyone's face out of some desire to rebel rebel rebel then yeah that's an issue. I never cared Nick Furry was played by Samuel Jackson. I don't care Aquaman is a Somoan.

Stop punking people. You're obvious and your better swallow it when someone does it to you. And spare people the specially plead arguments.

Social mores have changed in the sixty years of the show. When the show first aired buggery was still illegal in England. Captain Jack was a very popular companion and very gay and had some sort of romantic relationship with the Doctor (who keeps a severed hand in a jar for decades, if not for love…). England is far more diverse today than 1960.

I always thought Kylie Minogue was a great companion and was disappointed when she was just a one-off on one the better Christmas episodes…

I did start this thread on what DR Who has not had as a companion type
And I was merely discussing that and possible alternatives like someone else becoming the doctor (who could be black BTW cause I don't care). It was someone else who flew in and insisted I was racist alluding to me not liking swaps as me not liking black people.

Ooh, a Doctor Who thread. I like Doctor Who.

Wait a minute, it's one of those political shitshow threads. Fuck that shit.
