So how would you rate the season overall Maskripper ? Im plugging away at it but struggling to get the enthusiasm going.
But genuine question what would you give it out of 10, is the latter half better than the first? Or worse.? Or about the same?

Not after an argument (though that might come after I've seen it all, lol 😂)

Are those screenshots representative of how the TV show looks? It seems like the midtones are very dark. Maybe something to do with gamma. Does the TV show need to be watched at night with the curtains closed?
Yes, it really is that dark. They're going for an aesthetic apparently.

I'm going to put this right here rather than under "Cons" because I think it probably appeals most to anyone who is watching this thread.

Nicole Kang is going to appear at the spring NorthEast Con in Boxboro, MA on March 11-13, 2022. We attended the one on Thanksgiving Weekend 2021, and although it was rather underattended, we did have a good time (and we met IMSancho!).

,So if anyone near New England wants to meet "Poison Mary" and get her autograph, here's your chance! (Also at the Con will be Tara Reid and John Wesley Shipp)

nicole kang.png
I went last night. I can't go today and tomorrow because of work and family commitments, but I went for a brief while last night. I caught the very end of Nicole's interview on the main stage, the last 10-15 minutes or so.

I don't know what they talked about earlier. She looked great, wearing shiny leather-ish pants that were similar to what she wore in the last episode. What she talked about while I was there was mostly what it was like filming in cold weather when it's supposed to be warm out in the story. You can't shiver during the scene. You keep ice cubes in your mouth so your breath isn't visible on camera, that sort of thing. She seemed really nice.

Well, whilst i'm not surprised it is a pity, especially for those who did like it.
Always better to have these shows with a chance of eyecandy than not.
For me though the writing was an inconsistent mess, totally uneven and with lots of poor storytelling that only made sense if you didnt give a shit about the narrative.

Not surprised at the Legends of Tomorrow but I was hoping for at least one more season of Batwoman before it ended. Now we have just The Flash, Superman & Lois, and Stargirl. I think The Flash its near its end however but wonder if there will be any future superhero shows coming. I keep hearing about Gotham Knights. Time will tell.

There will be others, but I will miss Legends of Tomorrow as the only one that kept continuity, was funny, and had real surprising twists.

Flash will end soon since there are too many actors with contract renewals. This isn;'t a show with Friends' ratings and ad revenue to make it worth the added costs.

There is Naomi, too, Bronson. Not that I recommend it at all, but it exists as a DC superhero vehicle for the time being. Not too sad about Batwoman and Legends - there hasn't been a whole lot at either of them to recommend for quite some time. I enjoy a bit of Caity Lotz, and that's about it.

I do look forward to more good writing on Superman and Lois, and I'm hoping the camp level at Stargirl remains high so we can keep seeing Brec in her lovely costume.

I'm sure there will be plenty of future DC-related superhero shows, but the focus is probably going to shift away from The CW to HBO Max (e.g. the Batgirl movie, Green Lantern, etc). Which is good because the quality is higher there, and usually the prurience is, too. I haven't had any trouble accessing the HBO superhero shows so far.

I've said this before but I think the super hero genre is dying like westerns. Its legacy now. People going to Multi-verse probably out of nostalgia.

It's more like are the CW superhero shows killing off the genre by angering fans with bad writing and costumes.

The last season of Batwoman was turning the series into a angsty soap opera about the problems of family. It could have been better if they concentrated on villain of the week created by using Bat trophies to recreate a Rogues gallery like the 66 TV series. You just didn't have a smart, interesting main villain to carry the arc like Alice in the first season.

Instead you had the characters acting stupid over their relationship issues and the only one of interest was a Alice and Mary. Alice had to replace her missing sister Kate, since Ruby Rose left and they didn't't want to continue using her replacement. It gave then a better dynamic as Mary wanted an older sister and Alice needed someone to replace her lost relationship. That Alice killed Mary's mom and they were still becoming friends was what made it special.

That was better than poor orphan Ryan and her dysfunctional family of liars. Her brother made a third rate Joker with an inept gang Mom was ineffective even with all her money. Ryan was an idiot.

If they would just stick to sexy skin tight costumes on heroes and heroines fighting villains and villainesses and getting put into inescapable deadly perils each week we would all be 😁

The villain of the week formula needs to be reinvented… A clue, investigation, capture, overly complicated death trap, escape, final battle, victory. Repeat. 50 minutes of fun, every episode.

The Batwoman production and marketing was a comedy of errors.

I may be rehashing.
1. You take a minor member of the Bat family and you spend the first few episodes bashing perhaps the biggest money makes for D.C comics in movies, tv animation etc.

2. Than when Ruby Rose left or was forced out, you create a new character who sorry looks like a Cosplayer, instead of finding a replacement actress for Ruby Rose.

It always amuses me when people say "looks like a cosplayer" and they seemingly think that is AUTOMATICALLY a bad thing. :giggle:
There are so many fantastic cosplayers out there with great costumes that look better than many movie and TV productions.

And why does Javicia Leslie in that costume like a cosplayer?
The costume is a slight improvement (sexier material in some parts, shinier) over the one that Ruby was wearing (except the wig).
Javicia is trained much better and fills out the costume much better.....obviously.
So why does she look like a "cosplayer" and Ruby Rose in a very similar costume does not?
I guess I know your honest answer, but you won't type that down here.

You know what they mean, though. They mean "an elaborate costume that doesn't look like it belongs in a professional production."

My honest answer is that Ruby Rose looked like she was a Superheroine, the same way Carter did with WW or Craig did with Batgirl and Crosby did not with WW and Silverstone did not with Batgirl

There's a "gofundme" to save this show. Whether the campaigner can achieve this with the goal fund of $2000, (and whether they intend to!) is questionable. https://www.gofundme.com/f/save-batwoman

Someone probably could do a story continuation for much less budget than a "proper" production, but would they require securing the rights to do so (presumably costing a vast amount of money)? There are plenty of batman fan films. If they wanted things to be safer, just make it a "parody". I'm unclear on whether US law requires that parodies be pornographic!

As much as I like having a black actress in the lead, I am having trouble understanding Naomi. At first I thought she might be Green Lantern's daughter or the daughter of another superhero. I am surprised that Legends lasted this long. It stopped making sense to me. At first I thought it would be like "Sliders" or "Voyagers" but overtime when that did not happen, I had to stop watching.

As for Batwoman, I agree the only thing that interest me was Mary and Alice. They were fun to watch.

I like Superman & Lois although I would have given them a son and daughter but this OK. I love Stargirl and look forward to Season 3.

I don't see the superhero genre ending anytime soon. Its not like westerns where that era is over with. If CW is no longer in the superhero business and HBO or HBOMax takes over, that will be fine as long as the writing is good as well as the characters.

Basically agreed, Bronson.

re Naomi: I don't know how far you are along in their episodes (I stopped after 3), but the character Naomi - even though she was created by Brian Michael Bendis in honor of his adopted black daughter, and even though she is named after Milestone Comics creator Dwayne MacDuffie - is not technically "black", at least not in the Earth sense of being African-American. She is an alien from another dimension. I don't think I'm spoiling anything by revealing that - it was already presented in the comics.

The reason why Superman & Lois have two sons is because that's the way it is in the comics, starting with books like "Super Sons."
In incorporating lots of characters like Steel, Natasha Irons, Lana Lang and Bizarro, the writers were doing good work drawing straight from the source material.

And surely we don't want the superhero genre to end, although it has gone in cycles several times since the 60s. That's what this forum is for, after all - it's not called "Romcom Heroine Forum" or "Reality Show Heroine Forum."

Kind of a shame honestly. While the writing was messy I feel like they also had a tough job given the transition between two different actresses and them basically having to re-write the entire character in seasons 2 and 3, but it felt like they were going to have a fresh start in season 4 with all of that transitional period and plot taken care of. The show had a lot of internal drama and a plot that was left an absolute mess with Ruby leaving and Javica having to come in and take over the reigns with a story that hadn't been built for her character yet. I knew they were going to have a hard time coming up with any kind of coherent plot/story after that.

In the beginning I didn't appreciate their complete ignoring of who Kate was and the excellent source material they had available from Batwoman's initial comic run, but she is also one of my favorite DC characters so it was cool to finally see her in live action. I followed her in the comics at least up until the point DC decided to be dumb and say she couldn't get married and caused her excellent writers to walk out. A shame they won't have a chance to actually have what I felt would have been the first unique and complete season with this new version of the heroine.

Too bad they did not use Kate Kane \ Ruby Rose more like this in the show, a scene of her and Supergirl like this would have lit the ratings on fire!!

^ Who knows what could have happened with Ruby's Kate Kane..... but sadly they choose a very unreliable actress to play Kate Kane. #youarefired
Would be very interesting what would have happened with another actress from the start.
But well, there will be other TV shows.... so, I'm focusing on the future.

Another one for Batgirl1969:

The thing that doesn't make sense to me is how someone completely unrelated to the Wayne family can come in and take over Bruce Wayne's fortune and legacy as Batman. That's like me just taking over Warren Buffet's fortune.

It was a very weak plot point that Kathy Kane gave her voting rights to Ryan and made her the boss. It would have made more sense to give it to Luke Fox, whose father ran the company for Bruce Wayne, or Mary Hamilton her sister.
