She was all of 19 when she was cast and worked her tail off trying to redeem a mediocre script and a clueless direction. She should be celebrated...and at least here, she is being celebrated.
I think she was wearing a bit of padding to make her appear “bigger”. Like superman stuffing a few socks down the front of his pants.
It is definitely way more appreciated now than when it came out. Some films hit big when they come out and then disappear into obscurity. Other films, and I think it could be said for Supergirl 84, that they grow an audience over time. I think a lot of that has to come down to how amazing Helen was in the role. The script certainly has some questionable things but it is very nostalgic whenever I watch the film. It takes me back to a simpler time. 80's fantasy has a certain charm to it. I watched a film called Dragonslayer from 1981 the other day for the first time and I could really see how that has influenced things like GOT. I often forget the pedigree of films that Supergirl was up against in 1984 like tallyho pointed out.tallyho wrote: ↑6 months ago As I said on another thread you look at what the movie was up against, - a Bond Film, a Star Trek film, a Star Wars film, an Indiana Jones film, Gremlins, Terminator, and big book adaptations like Dune and 2010 there was a lot of competition for the same movie dollar. Although it doesn't mention it in that vid above, at the time it topped the Thanksgiving weekend movies on release with $5.2m takings.
Given the mediocre script/plot I think it did well to get half its money back
Cool fan art and big fan of any SG2 ideas. We can dream right?Supergirllegend wrote: ↑6 months ago I must say again that this is just fan art. I’m not doing this for money. I just do this as a fun way of seeing things that might have been in a Supergirl 2 film if it had happened. Did anyone see that Batman 89 fan made game? That was fucking incredible work done.
It’s my pleasure. I would love to see someone do that for Supergirl 84- I have no idea how that guy made the batman demo- apparently he used the unreal 4 engine.MOT wrote: ↑6 months agoCool fan art and big fan of any SG2 ideas. The Batman 89 game looks amazing. How do we go about getting a SG84 one made?!
Wonder if there is unused or pre edited Helen footage stored somewhere from when they made the movie. For example I’d love to see Helen filming the shots when she’s being squeezed by the monster at the end but without the effects.
This is a great thread. Kudos.
