I've noticed that nearly every black man in these shows are either bald or have very very short afros. Except for the guy in Snowpiercer I think every black guy is bald. Falcon, Powerman, Jimmy Olsen, the guy in Wyatt Erp, Lex Luthor on superman, the rock etc. Either bald or really short hair. Seems odd.

Perhaps there's only one black stuntman and he's bald so they cast accordingly, πŸ˜‚

In Victorian London you'd be hard pressed to find a white man without a moustache. It's just, y'know. Fashion. Why do you care?

It's not a case of caring, it's just passing comment like if the only girls in shows were blondes. This is what the forum is for, discussing things

Not every black man from superhero shows is bald. A person such as Mr. X with Confederate imagery on his site should not be speaking on any matter about black men.

A-Train from The Boys isn't bald. He also doesn't have stereotypical braids.

Guys let's not go down yet another political path here, the comment was about HAIRCUTS or a lack of hair to cut, and wasn't derogatory in the slightest just saying there was a propensity of bald actors as the black leads. No one said all, just the majority (in his view)
Keep responses about the hair or lack of it of the leads please.
Fine to post counter examples as above but let's not start mud slinging when it's a perfectly reasonable observation.

You should not expect anything less. Mr. X has a deep history of racism. His website has Confederate imagery. Many interracial stories on his site have warnings about sexual encounters between black men and white superheroines.

Mr. X has zero credulity on any matter about African American men.

I'm 100% sure if I said any racist like Mr. X has on his websites, then this site's entire community would be outraged.

His observation isn't reasonable at all. There are many black men with hair in superhero media.

FLIP YOU! I have NO confederate imagery ON MY SITE. And NO warnings of black on white sex ON MY SITE. I have had many stories with black female heroines getting the SAME treatment as the other characters. I'm one of the ONLY producers who includes Asian and Black women in my stories... one of the ONLY ONES.

That is disgusting going around calling people heinous stuff. Who the hell do you think you are calling me racist then telling everyone on a board I am racist.

OK deep breaths everybody

No name calling, no ascribing of perceived motives.

We are just talking about HAIR

BG1969 mentioned most women find bald black guys a turn on. Maybe that's the only reason they need it, plays well to the female demographic*

It's a fair topic, politely expressed let's leave all baggage and prejudices at the door and not trade insults with each other. But comment on the topic in hand.

I am giving you the benefit of the doubt because you are not American. Racism and hair have a terrible history in the United States. Mr. X with his history of racism and hate should not say anything about black men in any matter.

My state is currently having issues that I doubt will get resolve due to the racist party aka Republicans in the state house. Some agencies in my state are firing black women due to their hairstyles.

Hair is a sensitive topic to many blacks. Our hairstyles can determine a job opportunity. Our hair can determine how people may treat us.

If you supposedly are trying to help black people then why is pointing out a trend that maybe stereotyping blacks as the same boiler plate, rubber stamped character type such a bad thing? Wouldn't you WANT more diversity representation? Does every black guy have to look the same with the same bald or short afro? I know Snowpiercer the guy has dreads and that made me realize this stereotype. I would think you'd be the FIRST one to wonder why black men all kind of have the same look on shows.

Why is that a bad thing to point out a possible stereotyped trend?

Don't make assumptions about a person due to their race. You don't know what I want from media.

First, not every black guy is bald as you lied in your second sentence from your first post.

Second, not every black guy is bald or has a short afro as I have proven.

Being black doesn't mean a black person wants a diversity of hairstyles. I am sure some black people want to see a diversity of hairstyles. I certainly do not want to see any hairstyle related to urban and hip hop culture. I don't like those types characters in any form of media.

However there are black people, who have a totally different opinion from mines. They want to see styles from urban and hip hop culture in media.

People generally want characters to have particular designs that fit their lifestyle, values, and culture.

Wow this uh... wow. It escalated quickly.

If I had to guess, I'd put it somewhere between form and function. African descended people seem to have a rougher hair texture that sometimes more naturally 'fro's' out (and believe me they aren't the only ones! My best male friend's hair fro's pretty naturally so he likes to keep it relatively short) and in some cases it's just 'functionally' less of a personal irritation to cut the hair short... you see women rockin' pixies much more often today and it's for similar reasons, just finally got sick of spending six hours in the bathroom everyday to put our hair in a state that will not piss us off for the half hour grocery trip... then that function sorta jumps into the public lexicon as style... film developers want to play things safe outside of whatever realm their specifically attempting to innovate in, and thus will commonly look to the current trends and styles in costuming etc.

I don't feel like commenting on how racist or not this is. The mechanisms that facilitate the gestation and lifespan of styles worldwide are so vast and complicated, that I feel like just saying 'cause the film industry is racist and mandates black actors be bald!!!' is not only probably wrong... but probably also a bad faith argument or at least an uninformed observation. It's 'See X? Therefore Y!" without doing the research (and I'm sure as shit not innocent of never making that sort of observation myself so if anyone here's got a better take by all means lay it on me!) Anyway, while I'd be damn shocked to find there was nothing at all racially implicated by the adoption of a style, I think I'd also be pretty surprised if it was all some cabalish scheming plot to paint black men as bald in the public image for... reasons? Some men like to shave their heads for lots of hair related perceived complications, in certain spheres its popular to do so... and film making likes popular, I wager that's about the crux of it, however acknowledging I've done no actual research of any kind into this stuff. It's all like, 'my opinion man,' and uninformed at that.

So you don't notice a lot of them DO? That was the trend I was noticing. Kind of like someone noticing if a vast majority of women in shows had big boobs or were blonde. So it doesn't bother you that there MAYBE a stereotype going on about black men in media?

Since I clearly stated several times "bald or with a short afro" I did not lie.

You're looking for a fight that's not there.

And for the record, calling people racist and saying their site has racist content is crossing the line. I don't think you'd appreciate it if I said you were a Shaun King poser white kid pretending to be black and being an issue hijacker.

Ok so then I guess there is NO stereotyping of black men going on at all in Hollywood and everything is fine. No pressure for these men to look a certain way. Ok fine by me, I'll let it go. Good thing we've establish there is no stereotyping going on.

What are you considering a short afro? My examples DISPROVE your racist and stereotypical points.

The guys with hair in your post do not have short afros. I occasionally read the styles in pictures at the barber shop.

Falcon's hairstyle is NOT a short afro. He has a mid fade, also known as an all rounder haircut.

When the hair is difficult to comb, it is cut almost flush. On the beaches of Brazil, we all wear smaller clothes than in the rest of the world. Why? Because we want to tan our whole body. It's cultural.

I might point out that Lex Luther is usually bald, Bruce Willis was considered a sex symbol and was bald, so was Egghead and Mr Freeze as was Luke Cage. If you have male pattern baldness you can do a toupee, a comb over or shave it.

As Batgirl1969 points out, short hair or bald is considered sexy for a black guy. What you are noticing is that among men’s hairstyles close cropped or bald is the current style. TBH, having that short would be pretty cool to just towel off and go.

Dude just stop it. You are not helping any issues about stereotypes in Hollywood. The best thing for you to do if you actually want to help is respecting black people and learning a bit about our culture before making false statements. You listed black men, who did not have afros. You didn't know their hairstyles and wrongly assumed they had small afros.

That's a lie and everybody knows it. I have never....ever praised you for having black characters. I have criticized you and other creators for having black women with names of colors and animals. I have never...ever praised you.

You want an example, and here is one of them. I have never read any warning about interracial sex from any SHIP story and site until I've saw this warning and many others on your site. You are aware of these warnings. You posted this material on your site.
https://www.dangerbabecentral.com/xpage ... lkyrie.htm
Also, as a warning: given the source material, this story pushes heavily into β€˜interracial conversion fetish’ territory, as you would get on Blacks on Blondes et al. If that’s a turn off for you, you should probably skip this one.
Your site promotes SuperheroineCentral, a site with Confederate images!

On your Twitter page two years ago, you complained about this topic. You are not trying to break any stereotypes from Hollywood. If you wanted to bring light to stereotypes, then you would not have complained about this topic about black stereotypes in SHIP.

PornCritic, if someone were to say in a thread, "I can't help but notice that a lot of Jews portrayed in movies today are shown wearing a tallis (prayer shawl with fringes) when outside the synagogue, I wouldn't take that as anti-Semetic. I'd take it for what it is, a cultural stereotype being observed, possibly even falsely so, by either the observer or by the costume people in the movie production companies. The majority of Jews don't wear a tallis outside of synagogue and if they were being portrayed that way, it would be worth a conversation. It might be different if someone were to say, "Why does almost every Jew portrayed on screen have a big nose!" That would be a lot closer to being anti-Semetic. You seem to feel that Mr. X's observation is closer to my second example in regard to black men in Superhero shows than my first example. Since you were offended by that, that is regrettable. It seemed an unintentional slight.

In any case, that said, your reaction to instantly branding Mr. X and his site as racist ... over and over ... isn't doing your argument any favors. Yes, you've shown examples that disprove his point, somewhat, and those are appreciated. Please forego the histrionics and personal attacks in your posts. It's not helpful to anybody.

I am confused.

What is the problem exactly, that the site contains topics that some might find offensive, or the fact that they contain warnings suggesting some might find certain aspects offensive ?

This world we inhabit here is full of things that others in the wide world would probably find offensive. Is there a scale to say "this is ok" but "this is not ok" ? I think as soon as we threw our hat in to this ring we probably gave up our right to preach to others about what offends us.
Just take a helpful warning message at the start of a story for what it is : a helpful warning. And if the content is not "up your street" then don't read/watch it.

Are we done here now?
Mr. X's history of racism shows intentional slight. He made racist assumptions about black men's hair. He didn't even know the type of haircut that some of the men actually have. A person shouldn't make false claims about another person's style when he or she doesn't even know the style. He didn't list a single black man with a small afro. Every single man with hair had a mid-fade.

You shouldn't discuss a culture when you lack any information on it.

Some black men started to change to the bald look due to Michael Jordan (NBA). Michael Jordan has influenced black culture since his success as a player. His bald style was widely accepted by young black men. The style has become a part of black culture.

I am not personally attacking anybody. A person who supports racism and makes racist statement is a racist. That is a fact. That is not a personal attack. Mr. X brought it on himself for the racism from his site and racist comments about blacks on Twitter, which I have shown.

I don't know much about Jewish culture. I wouldn't start a topic about a particular look from Jewish characters in films. I would have the decency to do some actual research before speaking a single word.

You think racism is helpful. That is fucking disgusting.

I have read hundreds of SHIP stories about white men as villains. None of those stories gave a warning about a white man having sex with a heroine of any race. I would never expect any story to have a warning about a character's race.

It is not helpful to warn people about a man's race. It is disrespectful and degrading to that entire readership, who is that race. There are not any warnings about Whites, Asians, Latinos, etc. However, you think it is helpful for warnings about black men.

Anybody, who thinks sexual relationships between black men and white women is offensive is a terrible person.

Racist people like you are a disgrace to the SHIP community.

Okay, ThePornCritic. We're done here for sure now. Calling other members here racist who in no way meant his discussion point as anti-black but more so a live and let live attitude that people are free to choose or not choose to read or watch something will not be condoned. You were warned repeatedly, sir. You are banned from this site for one month.

Hair is a sensitive topic to many blacks. Our hairstyles can determine a job opportunity. Our hair can determine how people may treat us.
This is YOUR quote. So if YOU acknowledge there is pressure on hair styles for blacks how is pointing out evidence of a pattern so disturbing to you. I am literally acknowledging there maybe something to your claim. If hair can determine a job opportunity then could it be these men are influenced to all look the same by biased pressures from hollywood? Are you so busy auto disagreeing that you're shooting your own issue in the foot?

Also I can't read every story that comes through my story page. I did not create those stories and have no time to read through dozens of them. Given the nature of the material there would be no stories in the section if I removed everything offensive. The Huck/Finn phenomena.

You'll have to wait a month for ThePornCritic's reaction, I'm afraid, Mr. X. Just when it was getting interesting too. Sheesh!

Yeah I was posting when you had posted your comment first. Oh well. I just thought this whole thing seemed odd to me after I watched snowpiercer and said to myself "hey, that guy has dreads, how come I never see dreads" then noticed all these characters have the same kind of look. Just was wondering if this is a style or some pressure on these actors to look a certain way or maybe they all kind of follow the herd.

I blame smilies (aka emojis) for the baldness thing.

They're quite attractive. I totally get people wanting to emulate them.
