Because the last attempt to do this universe in an Anime style worked sooooo well...

Oh well, everyone can look forward to the GIGA parody video with She-Ra caked in her own shit. Meanwhile, her pussy will be pixelated because genitals are somehow too obscene and extreme for the delicate Japanese who prefer the milder charms of a woman caked in actual shit.

It's a preeeetty rough sketch and may well just be concept art (meaning they might just be throwing out gobtons of designs in an office somewhere) though I must admit... I probably should have realized they'd be using shitty modern American low effort animation. The Avatar series has really spoiled me for cartoons I'm afraid.

That anime style would suck alright, but on the other hand, if they make it Teen Titans Go style, I'm gonna cry!

That's cause those are the same people who did Legend of Korra, those Korean animators are pretty talented.

Speaking of which, I mentioned Golden Girl above with regards to the 80s. The cartoon was definitely a ripoff of both She-Ra and Jem (also the comic Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld) that happened around the same time (maybe there was just a zeitgeist for this kind of stuff) but the characters were very sexy *and* warriorlike. (Really, this is just the tip of the iceberg, as during the 80s, there was also the beginning of a proliferation of B-movies starring female warriors from such companies as Golan/Globus, etc).
You are mistaken because there never ever was a cartoon based on Golden Girl

You're right, Helstar - thanks for the correction Gus Goreman. I must have conflated the two. I know that I definitely watched a magical princess show with a gem-based theme and I don't think it was Amethyst because that didn't get a cartoon until 2013. I clearly remembered the Golden Girl theme music (from the commercials) from the 1980s, so I guess I assumed the show I watched was Golden Girl, but maybe it was actually Guinevere in the 1990s. Or maybe I conflated the Golden Girl toy ads with She-Ra, since they existed in the same year.

So many cartoons with similar themes :) Thanks for the correction.

Counter-correction: There was no show, but there in fact *was* an animated sequence which was part of the commercials! So that's what I remember. Not crazy after all :)

Two quotes from an old He-Man message board:

"I believe that the opening sequence to the series was animated, and when the series did not go forward, portions of it were integrated into Golden Girl and the Guardians of the Gemstone commercials."

"I recently discovered that Hanna-Barbera produced preliminary artwork and animation for a Golden Girl and the Guardian of the Gemstones series. When the plans for the series were cancelled, the preliminary artwork was used to produce a 30-piece set of 3-D Colorforms, and the preliminary animation was used to produce a Sneak Preview Projector cartridge."

Was the original show really any source of peril at all? Aside from the charming costume I mean...I seem to recall She-Ra maybe came in for one or two very quickly escaped traps in the entire run, her damn flying horse came in for more captures.
Filmation Studios was famous for taking great ideas and systemically draining them completely of any and all dramatic potential, very pretty individual animation cels, great character designs but when they started moving and talking pfffffft! Forget it, instant anesthesia.

Not particularly no, I think there were three or four bits that people make mention of. It's the same with Wonder Woman. Diana Prince was imperiled maybe four times in the entire series run but people talk about it like it was a fetish show :P Batman was the most perilific show ever made probably and Batgirl was only in the last season. Truth is it wasn't the golden age of peril most people remember it for, there's crap wads more for us today than there ever was then. It's just in different mediums. Artwork being the largest contributor today.

Other than a cute sexy character design (a hallmark of Filmation at it's height) there is really nowhere to go but up IMHO. Peril wise...Plot Wise everything. Is She-Ra still gonna break the fourth wall at the end of the ep and hector the kids about learning lessons and getting the moral of the story battered over their heads?

Hi folks - Interrupting your average day to top this thread with some hilarity.

If you weren't aware, Ethan Van Sciver (one of the finest artists in comics, and currently the artist for DC's Green Lantern) is a Republican. And thus he has quietly become one of the most masterful trollers of social-justice warriors on Youtube, thanks to his channel ComicArtistPro Secrets.

Now, I voted Democrat myself and consider myself more of a liberal and second-wave feminist on most issues, but nonetheless I appreciate the incisive wit that EVS/Uncle Ethan brings to the table when constructing his trolling masterstroke.

How is that relevant to this thread? Well, in his latest video, he takes some of the female superhero icons and reimagines them as men. In this video, watch him deconstruct the "problematic" characters of:

She-Ra - who becomes He-Ra, Prince of Power
Isis - who comes Ibro, the Egyptian God
Rainbow Brite - who becomes Rainbow Brute
Harley Quinn - who becomes Charlie Quinn

And you get great art from Mr Van Sciver as a bonus (the creations he drew are available now on Ebay!). Win/win/win (except for the matriarchy, of course :)

Everyone take the time to enjoy a little joke!

It does seem "convenient" that its OK to gender swap Thor but no one suggests lopping off Wonder Woman's arm, stripping her of her powers and giving them to a guy while disgracing her.

Noelle Stevenson has "selfishly and egotistically" destroyed the She-Ra character for a new generation, basically remaking a character (She-Ra had super broad appeal among a generation of girls) into her own very specific self-image....taking the femininity and the romance out of the female-targeted adventure genre, and replacing it with identity politics that only appeals to a small percentage of the population.....according to this video. See if you think otherwise, though.

Bert

Up until now I've rolled my eyes and lost interest as soon as the term SJW is used in a conversation. My thinking has been that fringe activists always sound extreme but their effect on mass culture is small. Also, change that is necessary usually begins with outliers making a stink. If the change they want is a good thing, like better environmental rules, or support for gay marriage, they eventually gain traction and more reasonable people start to shift their views.

This new She-Ra abomination has changed my view. Turning an iconic figure into a representative of fringe culture is extremely wrong-headed, even offensive. I have zero issue with creating a character that represents that culture and building a show around them. Fill your boots - it's a worthwhile endeavor. But don't take a beloved existing character and twist it into something unrecognizable. That's incredibly disrespectful to the creators of the character and the fan base that loves the character.

I feel betrayed by this Netflix reboot. It will probably fail badly, and it pretty much crushes any chance of a faithful re-emergence of She-Ra for the foreseeable future. Fuck.

Is this just 30 minutes of some random guy bitching about lesbians and having kids?

I thought it might have some footage? Some incel nutter speculatively bitching and making out that the cheesey soap opera of Arrow is decent is just a waste of time.

D&C isn't an 'incel nutter'. He's had a couple kids with different partners, and served in the military. Anyway this was just the first of several channels that commented on the new series, I just happened to post the first one.

Here's some broader coverage of what the new She-Ra series portends. There isn't much hope for it.

Guess we'll just have to go with the Amy Fantasy version instead :)

Nobody watched the He Man or Thundercats reboots with pretty decent animation and much better stories than originals. Rewatched original She Ra, it was terrible.

I can live with Teen Titans style animation. Will probably watch at least the first ep of this but suspect it's aimed at tweenage girls so probably not going to be of great interest generally.

I guess I just can't understand why a lesbian would want to do this to such a beautif blonde goddess and her friends. I know as a lesbian myself(really Bi but anyway) I would MUCH prefer this represent who I am and what I like...I guess there totally must be a different mindset of lesbians...some seem to like the masculine more boyish type females and even emulate that themself, then on the other side of the coin you have girls like me....yes Even though its a weird term...the lipstick lesbians....willing and able to hold our own against any other super fem hot straight chick who loves super hot chicks...straight bi or lez....love em all but only of they look like women...I guess I have never understood that. I am the type of girl who can be a lesbian at work, church, school, on the bus in your wife or girlfriends group and that you would never even know it

I have a friend who is a lesbian, she's a tiny little thing, with a tomboy look. Her preference is towering, butch women. Each to their own i guess, I just wish people would stop turning stuff to conform with their own political agenda. Ruined the ghostbuster reboot, Oceans 8 was meh and she-ra? Just why? If this is for kids, let them make their own minds up about their sexuality when they're old enough to process it.

Sorry *sigh*

Back in the 90s, i hated the music, the fashion was a bit crap and i couldn't wait for the future..But now i'm here, i wish i was back there again. Being a while, male wasn't a crime nor was being a feminine female. And the only moral story in cartoons was how to play fair and not talk to strangers. Now...sweet jeepers, no wonder kids have so many problems.

I need to go have a drink, I just realised I sound like my old man..

Unfortunately, Disciple, it's not about what's with "it". A small group of people, less than 1% of the population, emerging from college in the past few years (especially since 2014), are attempting to control the narrative for everyone else. The vast majority of people are "normal" and they accept pretty much the same kinds of values of equality, fairness and laissez-faire sexuality that second-wave feminism and the sexual revolution established in the 70s and 80s (which, in fact, is why we have the fetish / porn etc industry we have today), which built upon the classical liberalism that came before it. It spawned almost manic creativity - just look at the movies and the musical genres that came out of that period. Everything was fun and exciting, even the things that conveyed a political message. Having grown up during that period, I could cite endless examples.

However, within the academic realms of feminism and liberation there were kernels and pockets of ideological stridency, and that's what evolved into third-wave feminism and intersectionality (early examples like the writings of bell hooks). Those ideologies suppress creativity by placing the heavy hand of lockstep dogma on everything it touches. Going hand in hand with the puritanism of both of its allies (communism and Islamism), the philosophy of SJW-ism kills fun, crushes humor, and wipes out beauty, and enforces its diktats through swarms of hive-minding harrassers on the Internet.

"Cause, like, when you start learning about systems, everything is sexist, everything is racist, everything is homophobic, and you have to point it all out to everyone all the time. So there's a good year of my life where I was the most obnoxious person to be around...."

Whatever floats your boat, m'man.

Frankly, I think that past a certain age (or amount of consumption), one's palate starts resisting all new entertainment except that which specifically triggers nostalgia (yes, I know about 80% of the market is looking to do just that nowadays, but that doesn't mean they're successful at it). I say this because it's more-or-less happened to me; I can't really enjoy any comic-book that came out after 2004-ish, and it's not because of any 'SJW' boogeyman you care to cook up. They're simply past my time - in art, in dialog, in panel layout, in everything.

(And yes, I tried all the 'alternative' publishers too. Image was meh, Zenescope was a slog, and even the promise of Alan Moore couldn't get me to read more than two issues of anything from Avatar. Father Time - he giveth enjoyment, and he taketh it away.)

Fair enough, and I can understand the urge to succumb to such inertia, but it hasn't happened to *me*. I'm just the opposite.

Having grown up with comics in the 70s and 80s, I rediscovered them in 2013 just before the SJW wave (it's no bogeyman - the evidence of their handiwork is clear, as exemplified above) began to hit. For a year or so, I was simply devouring new material I'd never heard of before - Sex Criminals, Empowered, Wicked & the Divine, Saga, Sex, etc - and catching up as quickly as possible on the 90s and 2000s stuff that I'd missed (Witchblade, Fathom, the New 52 era, and much more). Then when I discovered the Youtube channels which are now collectively known as "Comicsgaters", I realized that part of the problem with the comics industry (not the only problem...there are several other factors that explain why comics sales are in the toilet despite the meteoric popularity of comicbook characters on the movie screen) is the SJW takeover. You don't have to believe me, but when the evidence of what's being done to She-Ra, Thundercats, Cloak & Dagger, Teen Titans, Star Wars, and other beloved properties is staring you in the face, maybe you'll realize there's considerable truth to what is being said on those channels.

As for your nostalgia observation, for me, most of the 'reboots' that are happening are so bad and worthless (there are exceptions: such as The Orville, or Cobra Kai) that it drives those who appreciate superior aesthetics back to the original productions, or to search out something (to correlate with your theory) that reminds one of the original productions. For example, the Mera series from DC reminds me a lot of the art of the 80s and 90s. And Amber Heard is going to look monumentally beautiful in Aquaman. So when the TPB becomes available, I'll be inclined to pick it up. And for the past year and half I've been creating my own roster of superheroines who hearken back to 80s and 90s aesthetics. So on the contrary, not only am I not giving up, I am chugging full speed ahead!

She-Ra definitely seems like it's hit a dead end, though. I can't imagine any generation caring about this cartoon, not even the newest generation.

I'm embarrassed for anybody who is so upset about a reboot of a thirty year old cartoon aimed mostly at little girls that they go onto the Youtubes to rage about it.

Is this a holdover from the My Little Pony weirdness a few years back? Do frustrated manchildren now presume that anything aimed at the pre-adolescent female demographic is theirs by right?

Is it really such a tragedy that it won't be possible to masturbate to this new kids cartoon? Are these guys so hard up for porn that their only hope for relief was a remake of She-Ra where she has massive tits?

Getting triggered by a cartoon for little girls. Absolute state of some people. How about let folks watch what they're going to watch?

The responses to this fall into ~4 categories
1. Show should be for adults.
2. Upset because liked the old version and feels like new is designed by the kind of people who bang on about "objectification" etc. Nothing wrong with girly characters for girls.
3. Don't care. It's fine.
4. OMG this show is not for men.

I sympathise with 1 - a super sexy version (more than the original) would be better for me personally, but I realise it's a kid's show.
I can see where 2 is coming from, but i'm more of a 3, except I care about 4 mistaking 2 for 1. I think most detractors are 2 rather than 1.

I don't agree. The more stuff like this comes out the more the market seems to deflate. There is no cultivation of the erotica in main stream to create the fetish for the super heroine fetish market. Why would anyone pursue adult related material if they never got the "itch" when they were kids? We're all here cause we got the "itch" from some 70s-80s-90s show, movie or comic book or cartoon.

The more the sterilization of the mainstream by prudes the more this fetish industry will die. Who will have the itch to buy the material?

Oh and don't think people will NOT fapp to this. Power Puff Girls, Dora, Teen Titans, My Little Pony, Penny from Inspector Gadget... they all got fapp material made about them and they are hardly adult females or drawn sexually in any way. My personal pref is that since fapping will occur it should be over a much more adult female like the classic one than some child. Its just a different group is going to fapp to this, a group that fapps to little children.

As for the show, yes its for kids.
