Cindy shows true mean girl behavior in pretending to be friendly and then twisting the back stabbing knife at the end as revenge for so many things. Courtney breaking their plans to go to a dance with a guy, Courtney being Stargirl, to show dad that she can be better than the ISA, or maybe just Courtney becoming her friend when Cindy has seen that she can't trust anybody.

The latest Cindy versus Stargirl fight only real difference was Cindy lacked her dad's flame throwing staff. Otherwise she had all her skills and wrist knives to use.

So is there any fights over anything "real" on this show or is this all high school revenge porn? I mean shouldn't Courtney be flaming mad or upset some kid got killed while she was fighting some bad guy... maybe wants revenge? I just don't get the motivation of the show. Some villains not doing anything (actually half the people they kill are their own team members), a podunk town of no significance, no real issues being fought over, villains who hung up the hoods and masks a while ago... what's the issue they are fighting?

That's a good question. With the heroes being killed off all those years before you would have thought there would be some big evil takeover that would have happened - but no! The villains have been quiet, until the staff awakens and recruits the new Stargirl and it's her presence that stirs up the hornets nest ... or is it? In reality we have seen that the bad guys are in the process of booting up their "New America" plot, or what ever it is called. Why it has taken this long I don't know, but with it not being thrust into the fore it's easy to forget that it really is important that Courtney & Co get a wiggle on and start slowing the bad guys down. In the absence of "New America" the show would just be about the new kids on the block heroes starting a gang fight with the established old school villains. And yes, a flaw is that while the heroes seem oblivious to the evil "New America" plan their motivations are limited to figuring out what the bad guys are up to or just being a pain in their necks!

The "New America" is the main villain plan that the heroes know almost nothing about except the two thefts. Except for Cindy, none of the villains' children know anyhing about what their parents as the ISA are doing. So this is pretty much another CW teen angst show with deaths being mentioned, but not having an emotional impact like in the adult superhero shows.

You would have thought that the ISA would have done more after taking out the JSA all those years ago. That seemed to be all they had planned.

Well folks, I think we will see what the ISA big masterplan is, I'm sure there is one, but it wasn't revealed yet. Which is ...odd.
But I bet, since they killed of the old JSA, they are working on something...whatever that is.
I hope their plans will be revealed soon. Perhaps that will be the big moment at the end of season 1, which isn't that far away (episode 13 is the last one of the season).

The fight between Cindy and Courtney was intense, but it was disappointing that Cindy didn't fight in her 'graduation costume' as Shiv, because she had to return it to her dad. The only time we got to see Meg DeLacy wearing that costume was in the underground lair when her dad chewed her out. You could see how nicely she filled it out, both front and back.

And pardon me for harping on the subject of Dr. Ito, but I'm also interested to know what exactly would happen *if* he took his hood off, like he threatens to. In the old black & white photo in Cindy's fake "Truman Show" house, it's clear that Dr. Ito looks like a normal Japanese man, but if he's lived all of these years (since WWII) and experimented on both himself and his drone henchmen, then maybe by now he has some serious powers which would be unleashed as the Dragon King should he be fully unmasked. I bet we are going to see before the season is up.

The newest Stargirl episode didn't had much action.
Well, it had barely none to be honest.
Stargirl wasn't at all in the episode, but at least Wildcat got some screentime...even it was less than 90 seconds.....

Preview:
Image
-

And here is the video:

-
The episode title is "Brainwave" and that shows what this episode is about. Most of the episodes were focusing on one character so his/her origin story and to focus on him.
And that's a little problem what I have with this show so far. Don't get me wrong, I really like the show and especially enjoy all scenes with Stargirl and Wildcat. But now with 9 out of 13 episodes of season 1 aired.....the real story of the show JSA vs ISA hasn't really moved forward since they are focusing so much on character introduction.
On one hand that's a good thing, because you really get to know the characters. On the other hand the main storyline and the action comes too short.
And after episode 9 "Brainwave"...the next one is called "Brainwave Jr.".
The scene with Wildcat was nice, even I really hate these mind reading abilities as Henry knew immediately that Yolanda is Wildcat :-(
They really need to get him onto their side...otherwise they would have a massive problem.
However, it was an interesting episode as to see the background of Brainwave and how his son is handling it.
Also the dinner with Jordan aka Icicle was intense as one of the big villains was at the some table with Courtney.
No big surprise, Brainwave is finally awake now, and as he knows Stargirl secret as well......another big danger arises for the team.

And luckily, judging from the trailer for the next episode, we seem to get some action at least in the next one:

This "master plan" issue is indicative of show development in the current environment. The show makers don't know if they will make it to the next season so they don't make an investment in the overall plot. They may get cancelled after 3 episodes for example.

Battlestar Galactica suffered from this. The show was always threatened with cancellations so they couldn't pursue the "cylons have a plan" plan. The episodes then became emo filled soap opera episodes instead or stand alones.

Just going a little laterally for the moment; there is a channel on Youtube that I follow - CorridorCrew - and there they talk about stunt work and special effects. It's interesting viewing and I can recommend adding their work to your watch list.

Anyway ... in this episode there is some Stargirl stunt work ...

Good find, Abductor! I didn't know anything about stuntwoman Lauren Mary Kim (featured in that Corridor Crew episode)
until now. She doubled not only for Wildcat but also for Shiv and Tigress!

Lauren is absolutely gorgeous, like Tia Carrere level. I find it hard to believe that she doesn't have any actual *acting credits* on IMDB. She could easily be the star of a series of martial arts movies, like a female Jackie Chan. I'll be following her career for sure and checking out the Elektra stunts in the Daredevil show a bit more closely.

It seems like the ISA's plan might be to control people's minds. We will see. Shame that Courtney and Cindy are on opposite sides. I liked their conversations they had both in the classroom and in Courtney's bedroom.

Decent fight scene despite the inexperienced new heroes. The end is near for the season.

I loved Cindy screaming to let her out so she could fight Stargirl. Daddy's little mean girl doesn't like being kept from the action.

Pretty sure it's a damn good thing that HourMan couldn't free Solomon Grundy. I don't see him beating that monster. Also Beth Chapel/Captain Midnight would be collateral damage in about 8 seconds. I liked the episode but it sure got heavy on a lot of fronts.

After the last episode with practically no action....this one delivered big time!
The whole team is back in action as they try to free Brainwave. So we get a great action scene and a ....dramatic....finale in this episode.
Some images:

And here are the videos:
(I cut out some scene with Hourman and Dr. Mid Nite so the scenes would fit into 2 video with under 5 minutes each)

Love the fight scene in the first video, very well made! Good to see how Wildcat and Stargirl are working together.
Ok, mainly Wildcat has to save Stargirl's neck, but good she saves her team captain as she needed it.
Also it was interesting to finally see the face of the Dragon King. Pretty sure he survived that blast....as surviving is his speciality ;-)
The henchmen of the Dragon King could use an "upgrade". Basically they seem completely mindless, they are unarmed and are "only" a threat in big groups. Pretty much like Zombies....just without the teeth.
I really love the ending. Dark, bitter and sad.....but very fitting. Brainwave was always a maniac (in the TV show), so killing his son was a fitting choice.
And now Brainwave's memory is back which means he knows who Stargirl is. Won't be hard to figure out the others.
This is exactly why Stargirl should have finished the job as she defeated him. He was in a coma, but there was the chance that he would awake form it. Ok, would be kind of "unheroic" to kill someone in a coma....but he is an evil maniac who knew too much. And now Henry is dead, that wouldn't have happened. Well ok, his whole story would change completely then as he wouldn't discover his abilities this early.
A part of me hopes that Brainwave would now go after Pat, Barbara and/or Mike to get his revenge on Stargirl. That would show Courtney how important it is to keep a secret identity.....secret.
Looking forward to the last 3 episodes of the season!

Thanks for the clips. I enjoyed this episode as well. Loved how Wildcat saved Stargirl and that Stargirl can handle herself without the Cosmic staff.
Spoiler
It was sad that Henry, Jr. finding out that his dad killed his mom though and then losing his life.
The new JSA is getting better and better.

And now all the action scenes from episode 11 of Stargirl:
.
..
...
....
.....
......
........
......... well that's all the action there was in episode 11.

It wasn't a bad episode, but there was no action at all. No scenes with the masked heroines.
Pretty much an episode to tell some background stories. We get to know much more about Courtney's father who gets into town, also the Shining Knight is a big topic.
We get some scenes with the bad guys that actually move the storyline forward.
Spoiler
Especially with Brainwave who tells Icicle that Courtney is Stargirl.... #exposed!
All this prepares us for the two final episodes of the season.
I'm looking forward to these and hope that Stargirl and her team get a lot of screentime there!
I really hope that season 2 will deal a bit more with the actual storyline, and I think it will since there won't be the need to introduce all these characters anymore, besides the new ones from season 2.
I hope that Stargirl will take care of every bad guy who knows her secret.
I wonder what they will do in season 2...will there be a bunch of new villains? Will Stargirl and her team fight "normal" criminals as well?

Wow, you really can skip Episode 11 of Stargirl. Who knew it would come to an entire episode without an actual superhero scene?

All you need to know is that Brainwave and Icicle know exactly who Courtney is and target her entire family (even ba-da-bing ba-da-boom brother Mike). If you want catch certain scenes, just watch the one near the end that shows how beautiful Brec is as she grabs the staff and embraces her destiny. She has the right combination of naivete and pathos.

So, the promo for EP12 above shows that there will be two-part climactic battle between the ISA and Courtney & Pat.
The second part will probably involve members of the new young JSA stepping to save the day with a message about teamwork
and the future generation of heroes. At least that's my guess...we'll see.

There's almost no way this can't get a couple more seasons. Looking forward to it (in between watching The Boys!).

Cute local interview for a Los Angeles station!

Pat gave Mike the most important job. :)
But Brainwave and Icicle did agree to add him to the kill list so as to leave no legacies to come after them. See the ISA learned from their mistakes to not kill all the JSA and their families.

And yet, in the final episode next week, Mike will save the day! Not sure how. Maybe his newspaper route training has made him a super paper throwing marksman. Or could be he'll have to take over operating the robot since...
Spoiler
..adult minds, like Pat's, are in the middle of being reprogrammed. Altho I suppose it's questionable how adult Pat's mind is!
Or maybe the dog will save the day and Mike will be the dog's sidekick.

Like this idea. I kept wondering why they kept referring to Mike's newspaper route. If they don't use that concept, I'm calling for the showrunner to install you, Scribbler, as a key addition to the writers room! While you're at it, come up with some fresh and better ideas for the Supergirl TV show. Be a Berlanti whisperer!!

My issue with Mike as a person is he's scripted like an adult but in a kids body and while he talks at everyone like he's an adult the adults around him logically treat him like a kid. After 2 seconds of dicking around with that drill I would have been on his case but Pat lets his tantrum run on and on. Then, he's so transparent about the staff, and how things might be different if he discovered the thing before Courtney did. But, she doesn't correct him, it wasn't about discovering the staff, it was about the staff choosing HER. I think if Mike wasn't written so adult I'd be able to accept him more but out of the whole show he is the most jarring ... it's like we have a Scrappy Doo in the team ... and boy I HATED Scrappy Doo!!

After the interesting, but actionless last episode we get a good episode with some action and a nice build-up for the final episode of the season.
It is the official first part to the two parted finale. It would make sense to watch both episodes in sequence on the same day....but I just couldn't wait another week to do that.
The start of the episode is my favorite part. Lawrence moves on Pat with his favorite weapon and Tigress shows up to "play" with Courtney and Barbara.

Here the video, even there is no masked women in it (unless you count tigress as masked):

Ok, hard to say with Lawrence wasn't in his villain outfit as Sportsmaster....but I bet he was way too confident. He thought that beating Pat wouldn't be any problem and didn't get into his outfit that might have protected him from that little back-stabber ;-)
I did enjoy how he started rather friendly, but his sinister character showed more and more. Tigress had some great fight scenes with Courtney and Barbara. Of course I would have rather seen her in her costume.....but that happens if your secret identity gets exposed....
The last minutes were nice as the team was finally in costume again and was just getting into action as the credits started to roll....

And here is the video:

I yelled at my TV, but I guess that's a good sign....as I am eager to see how the season will end!
Of course they will somehow stop the ISA with that evil plan....but what will happen with the bad guys? Will they all show up in season 2 again? Will some end up in prison or get killed?
Will all the good guys survive the season finale? I guess yes....but not 100% sure about it.

I get what you're saying about wishing Stargirl had been in costume. but I have to say I enjoy watching a heroine fight in regular clothes sometimes, especially when she fills out a pair of jeans like Brec does.

Mike was annoying the first part of the episode. When he says to Pat, "Stop treating me like a kid." as he is playing with a drill, I wanted Pat so either slap him or chew him out.

I did like the fight between Courtney fighting Tigress was great. Loved how Barbara helped her. The same with Mike redeemed himself with that drill into Lawrence's back. This episode had great scenes.

Loved Brainwave's talk with Cindy. I did feel sorry for her a bit. If her father loves her, he has a strange way of showing it.

Hmmm, the adults vs the kids - it does seem to be a theme that divides the good guys and the bad, at the same time. Barbara was against Courtney being Stargirl until she saw her in action, while Cindy had been taken out of action by her own father and locked up in the dungeon. We saw how Brainwave Jr could EASILY have fallen to the "good guys" side before being murdered. Equally, Artemis, while being a wild child could also be saved and stopped from being out and out bad but she is easily on the fence and could fall either way. The ISA even had a meeting where they seemed to take their own kids off the table. The rules of the show get clearer, but yet they are still foggy. Kids can get killed, innocent people can be killed and villains will kill team mates. From what I can see, no one is safe save for the titular heroine ... this show manages to mix dark with fun and who knows where it might go!

I wonder what role Cindy might play in the finale. Would she still be eager to prove her worth to her father and come through for the ISA?

Or, perhaps, spurned by her father, switch sides and save the day for the JSA?

Is it just me, but do I see doubt in Icicle, like, he's not even committed to the idea of Barb, Pat, Mike and Courtney being killed off? He says the words, but, it seems he doesn't want to get his own hands dirty and do it, because I think he couldn't go through with it, particularly with Barbara.

The finale promo implies

that Icicle wants to keep Barbara alive and was only doing it because Brainwave pointed out that he killed his own wife and son for the cause. So if he had to do it than Icicle can't do less especially since Barbara isn't his wife and they aren't even family.

I was fairly satisfied with the ending of SE01, the action was solid and there were prices to paid on all sides during the battle. How much might be won back though will only be seen in SE02! All in all I think they did a great job with the show. I know some are sore that there was some story telling getting in the way of the action but I think it was important to get to know the characters, especially our new heroes who didn't all exactly come from a happy background.

That was a good finale for the season in my opinion.
Spoiler
Will be interesting to see which ISA members are really dead besides Brainwave.
No clue what happened to tigress. Sportsmaster may still be alive as well.
Dragon King have cheated death before, but I do think he is dead after all.
Icicle....well, he was crashed to bits...but maybe he can melt the single parts and put himself together like the the T-1000, even I doubt it.
Cindy is still there, Solomon Grundy and the Gambler too. Plus two new bad guys that are shown or mentioned. Need to do some background work on them.
I'm glad that Wildcat killed Brainwave, that was the right move, he deserved it big time.
I'm not happy that there are still some folks who know who Stargirl is, her secret identity isn't really secret. Somehow I have the feeling that there will be always bad guys who know her secret
which makes her mask more decorative then concealing.
Also that there was no unmasking action at all in the whole season. Not even a self unmasking or unmasking attempt.
I had feared it would be like that since Brainwave found out that Courtney could use the staff and its powers in episode 1. Luckily he was silenced for a while but no one from the JSA took an effort to go for her mask in any situation.
Don't get me wrong I relly enjoyed the whole season and the finale too as it delivered a lot of intense action and a lot of screentime for the masked heroines.
So far the public didn't really took notice of the whole ISA and JSA, they fight their battle in the shadows pretty much. I wonder how that will develop in the future.
Blue Valley is such a picture perfect community with seemingly no crime to fight at all.... pretty much the exact opposite to Gotham.
So, I don't think the JSA will really have to fight common criminals in season 2. Ok, it would be an unfair fight with their super powers, but Supergirl does it all the time, even you can't compare the situation.
The end of the episode was a little too much....Stargirl and Stripe sitting on that surprisingly strong tower, the american flag was waving in the wind.....
Will be interesting too see how Starman will fit into the team in season 2. Will more heroes join the JSA?
What plans and members the new ISA will have? Who will be in it?
I do hope that there will be some unmasking action or secret identity struggle in season 2. That would be really great!
Also, how many episode will season 2 have? This one had 13, but now the show has moved to the CW, it may get more in season 2. Hard to say as it isn't even clear when the second season will start.
P.S.:
Am I the only one who thought the big satelitte dishes and the gigantic undergorund base was worthy of a 60's/70's Bond villain?
Reminded me of it....especially as Gambler also had a cat as he was working on his evil plan

What do you think about season 1 in general and the final episode?
What do you hope to see in season 2?

Great season! This is the most solid superhero show on TV right now except for The Boys.

Only a few minor quibbles:
Spoiler

They need to do something about making sure costumes are worn more often. Too often, some of the heroes and villains are depicted in important, consequential battles not wearing their costumes. For example, Courtney in Episode 12 in her house fighting with Tigress; Cindy in Episode 13 fighting with Courtney in the underground lair; and Icicle in the combined battle in the lair.

There's a fair amount of scenes throughout the series where the lighting is insufficient..either in the night-time scenes, or in Pat's basement, or in the scenes in the underground villain's lair. As the characters are moving, we can barely see their costumes and sometimes their faces are even too much in shadow. This is compounded in a situation like showing Wildcat's costume, which is already dark-colored - you want to see more of the lovely outline of it but you can't. I understand that sometimes one might want to set a dark tone, but when the only thing in a scene that's lighting Stargirl is her staff, that's a bit of a problem. And a series like Stargirl is supposed to be more colorful, anyway (at least it is in the comics).

They really needed to give Amy Smart more to do - seems like she was mostly there to be Mom and to react to things, but not really be instrumental or heroic in any significant way like Pat. Hope that changes. They also need to give Mike a lot more to do as well - he basically did nothing at all in the whole series except in the final episode.

I agree that there was plenty of over-the-top camp in the finale. The bit with the satellite dish rising out of the football field was
way over-the-top..and what I can't understand is that the kids all saw it happen - and they're not being brain-wiped like the adults
are - so how is that major detail going to be explained. None of the band geeks happened to take a photo of the evil plan on their cell phones? Not a single townsperson happened to be in the town square to see the whole clock-tower battle?

Anyway, the finale was lots of fun. Geoff Johns created some chilling, fleshed-out villain characters who were actually fun to watch and whose backstories you cheered for (unlike the origins of villains like Reign and Bloodwork in Supergirl and Flash), and somehow, he was able to make their entire plan about forcing progressive political change on America through brainwashing. That doesn't seem like something Greg Berlanti would do - for example, the "Myriad" plan on Supergirl and the "Thinker" plot on Flash were much more authoritarian and dictatorial, while the "Obsidian" plan on Supergirl was evil corporate technology (capitalism) gone awry, and the evil schemes on Black Lightning were chalked up either to foreigners (Markovians) or government secret-agency shenanigans (Odell). But this was just straight up a hard-leftist plot to take over the country, and that's not exactly usual in today's superhero programming, so kudos to Geoff Johns for some balance on the extremism front.
By the way...the villain teases for Season 2 were Shade (who is an ISA member) and Eclipso.
In the comics, there is eventually a female Eclipso when Jean Loring (Ralph Dibny's beau) takes the stone. But there's already been a Jean Loring character in The Flash series. So my guess is that Cindy Berman is going to become Eclipso herself. That would be a good plot twist, as Meg DeLacey would look very beautiful in a well-designed Eclipso costume!

Looking forward to Season 2!

The filming in dark or shadows is a recurring problem in TV shows and movies. I'm guessing part of it allows for stuntmen replacing major characters to speed up production and minimize injuries to actors that would stop production. You don't have weeks to train an actor on the moves for a five minute fight.

Dark sets really hurt when most characters are wearing dark colored costumes. In the comic books you get to see them or they are in shadow for a reason. But here you just miss them.

What happened to the ISA:
Spoiler
Brainwave dead.
Icicle probably dead.
Solomon Grundy ran off.
Dragon King probably dead from getting stabbed in the back.
Fiddler wasn't in the fight.
Gambler fled.
Sportsmaster and Tigress unconscious and probably arrested although they could have fled.
Shiv unconscious, but probably escaped.

Visitor: You must have missed the scene near the end. Shiv is not only alive - she picks up the Eclipso gem. That's why I think she's going to become Eclipso (and not just because it would make a super-hot transformation scene). Guess we'll see.

And Scribbler: That was a good preview video for the next season of activity from DC Comics, but they forgot one Easter Egg from the Stargirl two-part finale - Pat mentioned the Seven Soldiers of Victory as being an even older team than the Justice Society. And Shining Knight was on that team..so if he is going in search of his horse, he may also run into some of the Seven Soldiers, as well.

Yes, some. For starters, Brainwave had Stargirl seriously on the ropes during their very first encounter in Episode 2 and would
have killed her if not for Pat's timely entrance in the STRIPE robot. Her battles with Shiv also involve some perilous moments for both combatants. Brec is generally rather expressive during these scenes.

I wish there had been a bit more peril for Wildcat, though. I think the only time she was really in danger was when she slid down the side of that hospital wall. But I could be forgetting something. As I've mentioned before, we needed to see more of that great tight costume in brighter lighting.

The first Wildcat and Tigress fight had Wildcat pinned to the wall by crossbow bolts while Tigress prepared to finish her off. Too bad they ended the fight scenes in that episode so quickly.

How did Stargirl not get frostbite in her costume at the end of the show during that cold, snowy Nebraska winter?

Well, I guess that staff has a build-in heater or is glowing hot enough for her to be ok even with that icy temperature around her....well...maybe.
But ok, there is that cosmic staff who flies around and has his own will....so I tend to not question such details
I found it more odd that that tower wouldn't collapse as a heavy robot with a weight of many tons was sitting on it. :hmmm:
But again.....it's not a documentary, it's a superhero show with a lot of fantasy elements.... so that would be "nitpicking over details" for me.
